1946 Catalog – See Dependable logo
Yes, we are going to touch on the horn subject, ONE MORE TIME. And no, we are not running out of stories, and no we are not farming for more Blow Me jokes. But, last night at 1 AM we got this from Dane Anderson, who found this page in a 1946 Catalog. Well, well. So we now know the horn is at least a post war horn. But if you dig further, the term Dependable is also used in 1930’s catalogs ,
1934 Catalog – I will add that the Dependable “Logo” looks old and fits the feel of the 1930’s – Catalog photo Vintage-boat-parts.net
and, from this catalog from the 1957 year uses Dependable…
The term Dependable is clearly a WC word, but the font and logo are gone. So we can narrow that logo to 1930’s – 1940’s use?
Is the non branded one earlier? And then there is the new Third design Jim Staib from FINE WOOD BOATS sent in. Which clearly looks 1960’s .

The topic is having your boat judged at a fancy pants show, and even though you have a horn on board, is it the right logo or tag? mmmmmm? A horn is not just a horn is it? FLASH BACK… Zipper Logo hell. Ya ya, but the point is here, if you are going to have a horn, and it has the wrong logo, it should be a deduction, even though you have a horn. Graphics matter in our culture. They should, because our passion here is a very visual passion. We as a community, are aesthetically driven. AND YES, I HAD TO LOOK UP THAT WORD. ya gotta admit, that one is a spelling bee special.
Anyway I digress into my A.D.D. So thanks to Dane and his sickness for digging into Wilcox Crittenden catalogs at all hours of the night so I could bore you all with logo dates.. And the spelling of “aesthetically”

Most of us in WoodyBoareville don’t have enough wind left to make one of these work, so get one of the compressed gas ones like I have and make some noise. Don’t worry about the judging deduction. Just go boating!
You’re attending the wrong shows if you’re getting judged on Wilcox Crittenden accessories.
Quit worrying about the label and go toot your horn.
And they offered the “Little Troy” up to the “Troy be dreaming” size . How will the judge know what is correct for your boat?
Is it possible that the Leather strap, was available in certain years? Can’t seem to find a reference on that. AND NO TROY!

How can I tell which is the appropriate labeling for my horn? Or, should the label be of the same vintage as my Boat? Aww-forget it, moving on…. Need coffee.

I love these digressions into these topics! Ive acquired numerous NIB old boat accessories and boat brochures and while they would look good on the boat, they are displayed on a shelf for my continued enjoyment. Paging through old original boat or accessories catalogs is also very cool. maybe is a diversion from playing with my four Chris*Crafts or too many (never) Whirlwinds or other old wood.
