Sweet Pea Needs A Makeover? Trawler Color Studies.

A – Clean slate, all white, blank canvas. Yes, its a look.
We got Sweet Pea up on the rails the other day to repair a leak. I will add that this was one of the first up on the rail jobs I tried without George, who makes it look so so easy. 2 hrs later and 4 tries, I had to call in the expert, and of course he made it look so simple. Ugh, anyway, I guess I can look at it in this way. I am in my 60’s and still learning stuff like a kid, and that part of it all is wonderful. I accept it and all part of the journey. How many people can say they know how to run a marine railway? Sadly more would say who cares, but the jokes on all of you laughers when there is a emergency need at a hot babes convention and someone needs to put a boat up on a railway.. Ya, who’s sexy now? Okay okay I digress into my morning bitterness. Today I am exploring a different color study for Sweet Pea. The idea of havering a beautiful Trawler with such wonderful lines and its all painted white drives me nuts. But it is a look, so today with the help of Photoshop, I did some sketches. Oh! I did some sketches.

B- Currently

C- maybe her hull matches?

D- Maybe a dark dark hull Black and Sea foam

E – Warming up the white and maybe a softer grey green hull?

F- A softer green, less turquoise. Putty white to soften it all

G- Soft Green with Dark dark green.

H- Altering the green to a more Pea organic color.

I – A study in more warm browns walking the edge of green.
Of course none of this matters since the Boatress has veto power and could say, Nope. and then I sit.. wondering why I am alive and tormented by my obsession to wonder in an ocean of subjectivity… At least I have a boat to float around in.. And Kirby paints to keep me moving. GO KIRBY, GO KIRBY!
I like E or G. I think whoever the Boatress agrees with should get a prize. Do you still have any WoodyBoater wieners?
Oh we will make a special award!
Such a beautiful piece of Art no matter what color pallet you use!
E_____Color will look different on the water, the black will show strength, you must keep the black and work from that point on.
H is my choice
I do like the current “B” color scheme, but “E” and “G” look good from here.
Wasn’t this painted maybe 2 years ago, or is my mind playing tricks on me. Seems like a familiar story.
Bilge Rat: What do you expect after all these years?
I must be color blind…all seem about the same to me…its the BOAT that is the art…the paint is protection….Pick whatever and Go Boating…you have such a true local classic in that Rice trawler.
Going Boating tomorrow….John in VA.
She is painted every two years, Just to keep her looking good. This past year she started looking a tad rough, so.. And yes, its an endless story..
“It’s deja vu all over again”!
still sticking to our opinion the last time this came up of making the green, taupe. much softer color relationship.
E, fo sho.
Yep. “E” or “G”.
Just like the new C-C hulls that are that dark blue, a darker hull defines the shape and the upper works on Sweet Pea become icing on the cake.
Besides, every two years you can pick something else, right?
As long as the Boatress approves……..hey, ya wanna be right or ya wanna be happy?
Any successfully married man knows the correct answer.
F gets my tick

My boatress and I have conducted a very ”
Artful” analysis of the Sweetpea color pallette and our unprofessional opinion is a decisive F. It is also our observation that whatever color pallet is selected, the cabin door, or at least the lower half, should be painted the same color as the rest of the cabin.
A darker hull color looks great, shows all imperfections, requires cleaning more often, and a primer coat if changing later to lighter color as everyone knows. Always state the obvious.
F or G for me!
F is my choice.
Chris Craft Option
Hinckley Option
Just spitballing…
That really looks good Chad!
My vote is A – white.
Boring. Practical. Timeless.
More “Glenna Fay” and less “She Shed”.
I’m with Chad. The Hinkley option is awesome. Or leave it white and add more brightwork where able. Ive never really cared for anything painted green.
“ ‘our’ eyes are the window to your soul, “ Matt.
The Hinkley option is beautiful but currently having a bark blue hull I will tell you it is HARD to keep it looking clean in a salt environment. Go with E.
E, G, or Hinckley should be semi finalists
Feeling dark.
G, but I’m really digging the Hinckley option.
G for sure!
She is wood right? I always understood that a dark topside sitting in the sun with reflections off the water makes for a hot interior and stresses the hull.
Our second choice w00d be the CC option.
F
Ahh G
I like F and H
G or the Hinkley.
