“Thayer Chayer” The Official Woody Boater Work Station.

Royal Easy Chair 2Over the holidays I was picking around and came across this very cool recliner. I have for years “flopped” into a lazy boy and cranked away on Woody Boater, but to be honest the dam thing smelled and was but face ugly.

Royal Easy Chair -1

It adjusts. No flopping here.

And now this. After some research it appears to be an Royal Easy Chair from The Royal Chair Co. Sturgis Michigan around 1905-1920 ish. It adjusts and has a cool little bottom thing that slides out. Its original vinyl stuff.

S/W Ver: 9E.03.3AR

Same stuff!

The exact same color as Thayer IV’s interior. So it shall be dubbed. The “Thayer Chayer” Its very comfy and best supports my back. Woohooo! I wonder if there are any others out there? Ugh!

Back in the day, Michigan boat builders found other things to build when things slowed down in the Winter. Enjoy your other classic Michigan product!

Shouldn’t the Lazy Boy go to the Smithsonian or Antique Boat Museum? It is the spot where WB is created! They can put it by Archie Bunker’s chair or the Fonz’s jacket.

Buy a Stickley mission oak chair. They are the only furniture manufacturer that their price appreciates. I have a room full of Stickley

I am always the crepe-hanger. Here we have a well-made chair built in this country, and now we are subjected to moulded plastic crap. We no longer smelt lead, are not allowed to build a nuke plant, cannot make a good varnish (only “good enough”) and produce corn-cob fuel. Tried to buy a real gas container that pours without a lot of futzing and acrobatics with the spout? When was the last time anyone out there came across a real parts man? Can’t even get the guy at the yard to crib a wood-hulled boat. Ptooey! We are striving for new levels of mediocrity on a daily basis. Of course this rant is just toungue-in-cheek… Nice Chairs! Happy New Year! CQ

    Matt,
We bought two of the newer versions almost 20 years ago and they are still aworking. The ole leather is worn but I say it just gives it character.
Enjoy your many hours of nap time!
    Pete
