The Deal Of The Year?

If you are following The Majestic sale going on, on, Bring A Trailer you are no doubt watching and wondering.. Dang, how is this possible? When you break it down.. Sorry, bad use of the wording here. There is 10’s of thousands worth of goodness here. The engine. $10-$20K, leather interior, $20K, trailer $10K, chrome, and parts $20K, bottom job $50-60K , and the boat, even a BEFORE resto boat is going to be $15K And these are my low numbers. I bet a complete resto on a 25 Sportsman would be close to 250-300K in serious numbers. YES! This is the model boat that scares many away. Not a 16 Utility. These are serious models and well worth it I might ad. They are that amazing. And not as fleeting as other models. They hold on. This model is always in families for decades, people that sell them regret it. Ask around. They are amazing user show boats. Oh, and go price a center console 25ft boat at the dealer today. $100K and a pile of digital crap that requires a degree from MIT to use. AAAAAAAAAND!!!!!!!!!!! Will be worth 50% of its value of a year or two of use. AHHHHHHHHHHH!

Right now the bidding is at $19K for The Majestic, and will no doubt grow near the end. But for me, has a ton more to go to not be an insane deal. Even if you get the boat for $30K, and put $75K into it. You are ahead. I know, I know, yo u may be able to find one already done. Sure. BUT, if you can do the work yourself. You are gold. Hell. Remove the planks yourself. Taking crap apart is the easy part. UGH. This is so painful to watch. I need a boat ride. 8 More LOOOOOOOONG DAYS
You’re gonna try and snag that…aren’t you!!!!!!
I was hoping this would be the topic again today. Been watching this sale closely. Wish I had more skills to work on a boat like this myself. I have photos taken in 2021 of The Majestic at the Les Cheneaux boat show. It was beautiful. It still is. I just hope a skilled, serious Woodyboater gets it and not just some random car and boat flipper.
I passed on her 30 years ago because I didn’t have the skills. Someone had taken a belt sander up and down on the sides. Now I’m just too OLD to start a project like that. Tom in Buffalo has a similar boat for $15K. Maybe make one from the pair?
The 1 in Buffalo used to be mine. It needs new bottom planks, but that is it as far as the wood goes. It is also a complete boat.
This is a great opportunity for a collector with serious skills or deep pockets, but not really for the average user guy. The Scripps was an asset at one point, but I think in the current market it is a liability (with the exception or the serious museum type collector)
What happened to this boat during transport is a crime. I don’t know how that has not turned into some sort of insurance battle or law suit.
Whomever ends up this this boat will have a true treasure, but don’t think for a second it will be a positive financial move.
To Quote Troy; Whomever ends up this this boat will have a true treasure, but don’t think for a second it will be a positive financial move. The picture represents what your bank account will look like after getting into this boat unless it is a do it yourself project
Like I have said before. I hope some one buys it, loves it, and takes good care of it. I will have to add fixes it up. Why don’t one of you guys buy it. Would make for some good stories here on WB.
The statement below is a comment posted on the BAT cracking 25 hull.
“I was always told the best way to store a wooden boat was on a dirt or gravel floor, out of the moisture, sun and unheated.”
I have heard this logic before and disagree. The BEST way to store a woodie is over the water in an enclosed boathouse……..year round.
this method has worked on Moll-O for the past 45+ years with nary a crack.
Art: I will agree with you on this point, unfortunately there are few of us, even in this community, who have the option of storing in a boathouse over the water. Especially since I doubt there are many, if any, municipalities who would allow that kind of boathouse to be built today.
Those who have one should feel very blessed, the rest of us have to settle for a dirt floor barn or garage.
Troy, yes I feel blessed and know that my boat house is the ultimate place to store a woody. That is why I will be including free winter and summer storage in the selling agreement for one year and optional there after when I list in the fall.
Art & Troy in ANE:
I am also grateful that I have my U-22 in a boat House over water. I keep it as high off the water as possible, however, cause I try to protect the bottom from the direct Winter wind that rips across the open floor of the Boathouse. What about the effect of cradle hoist versus swinging from the O-rings; any theories out there as to the impact on cracks from method of suspension?
Molly-O has been lifted from her lifting rings at least 2000 times in the last 45+ years with NO ill effects. In the winter she sits on 8X8 beams with the factory cradle under the rear and an old small deflated fender under in the bow .keel.
Our neighbors on Cobbossee had a rail system that would take their wooden catamaran into the basement of their cottage in the winter. Unfortunately it was removed in a renovation after the owners sold the cat and the property. There is no way anyone could replace that today.
PS: I heard the cat was basically held together by paint in the end.
Troy its funny that you mention your neighbor because MY boathouse is attached to my HOUSE NOW with a rail system that could take a boat from the water, and put into the shop aera …..But was all a boat house originally . … my DAD converted to a house with an attached 2 well boat slips. We eventually bought it from my parents.
Had a chance to see this boat at the Blackhawk Chapter’s show a few years ago. Beautiful boat then. Hopefully the next custodian will get it back to smile inducing shape.
Sold for $34K. There’s your answer to both today’s and yesterday’s topic of discussion
Makes Molly-O look like a bargain at 85 k.
34K, I think that’s a good buy, as long as the damage is only as far as what shows in the photos. A DIY guy w/ exceptional skills can have a real prize, or a pro resto shop buying it can make some profit after repairs. Matt, you quote the trailer at say 10K, That leaves the boat for 24,but is that a realistic number on a large custom trailer like that?
Tom: I suspect the brand new build of a custom trailer like the one Majestic is going with would probably cost more than $10K today with the price of everything, but used by itself it might struggle to find a buyer at $10K. The only reason I say that is because the field of 25SP owners is slim and otherwise the trailer would need to be modified.
