The Last Gas, That Special Time Right Before The Inevitable

Bob’s Last Gas and The Main Lake Market on lake Hopatcong
I can not believe I am starting down the trail to the 2025 Last Gasp stories. But we do have a new category of moments, I am galling “THE LAST GAS”. And no this is NOT the big announcement, I am still ironing out the details on that. I got the lead image from Bob Kays a week ago, with a sad note that this may be the last fill up of the season. The lake is in need of rain water so there may be an early end to the boat season.

Bob out with lower sun magic lighting
And I know for many of us, it’s starting to become smaller windows of boating opportunities. All be it, amazing moments of flat water and no humidity, but shorter. More precious, and with that less fuel burn. So the last fill up, is like a last meal of sorts.

It looked like a perfect morning

I went out for a short ride Sunday morning.

And then went out for a morning ride. WOW, it was a very short window of sunshine before the clouds took over

Just pur joy

But with a simple turn, things got grey
As you par ooze through the last week of Clayton images, many of these rides may have been season ending moments, And what a way to top it off. All be it the fastest summer ever. And I am not sure how to splain that. It just is what it is, and for me it may have been work related.

Got my last Gas at Buzzards Point
But as you can see I enjoyed a small sliver of weather perfection yesterday, and filled STINKY up.
Glad to see you getting Stinky wet. I may be winterizing Tiger Lily this week, but she sure had a good time in Clayton. Water Lily will get her rides for another few weeks, but it is that sad time of year!
🎶It seems a shame to see September swallowed by the wind. But oh so sad to see the summer end. All the changing colors are a lovely thing to see, but if it were mine to make a change, I think I’d let it be.🎶 John Denver 1972, I think about that song every year this time
Matt, you are not alone in feeling that this summer passed thru all too quickly. Here in northern KY, it seemed we went from daily rain to daily 90 degree temps, before finally settling into a pleasant September. Excessive debris in the water has presented a threat to running boats. Combine that with a busy race schedule & the past 7 months have disappeared in a blur of “pack, load, travel, unload, unpack, laundry, repeat”.
Geneva Lake boat show this weekend
Thanks woodyboater
A week and a half from now, we’ll be on Lake Chelan for the Mahogany and Merlot event, our traditional “last gasp/gas” with a run uplake to Stehekin for a couple days, then back down to the show. After that, we button things up and put the boats away for the winter…
I agree, pack, unpack, laundry, rinse, repeat. Our Lk Chelan trip is 55 miles, and nothing lakeside the last 25. Stehekin is a national park, accessed by boat, ferry, or fly. It is like a fjord, eastern WA is mostly brown & dry.
No faculties for boat shows in Seattle.
We use the marina in Chelan which empties at the end of summer.
BTW, the Hydroplane and Race Boat Museum sets up a course, does mock display races and gives boat rides and the unlimited hydroplanes!
MS: definitely NOT done……….culling through (God knows) over 5000 clicks. Still PLENTY of petrol.
thank you !! for including the posts last week. HOLLY AND I ARE GRATEFUL.
THIS SHOT from Saturday 8 AM, 9/20/25 with Steve Tuzinowski, CCABC Club President. KUDOS to Holly’s husband, John, for his photo boat driving skills.
Just buying some time before the goodies show up
