Well, Someone Paid Over $2,100 For It! And Worth Every Penny, All 210,000 of them.

aobo99Wow, yesterday watching the cool boat model bidding was more fun than Game of Thrones. Some one, or someones wanted that thing alot more that I could afford. To be honest, if I had the dough its a no brainer. It’s art, great art for that matter, and will always make someone smile. Folks will spend far more on a small customized model, or painting, so when you really think about it, 2K is a bargain. Congrats to the new winner! And happy header day.

I think I’ll get into model making. I could build about twenty of those a week. A two grand each that’s $20,000. Hmmmmmmm…………….

No, wait a minute, that’s $40 ,000. What the hell am I doing messin around with full size boats?

One flaw in your plan, Dan T….how do propose to build 20, 80 year old boats a week? Here is where a time machine would really come in handy. Go back to 1930, build your 20 boats then bring them back with you in the time machine! Yeah….that’s the ticket!

After I build em I’ll let my grandkids play with them for a few days. Guaranteed instant patina.

I purchased a rebuilt Chris-Craft K engine for less than that a few years ago. Of course it doesn’t fit on a book shelf but…

Well, if you were wondering what it was worth wonder no more. 😀
I have a feeling that the old electric motor in it is worth close to what they paid for it, vary rare.

Oh boy, I think I made a mistake. I was at an estate sale on Harsens Island last summer, and they had a very old model of a CC barrelback. I had a wonderful patina, and they ‘thought’ is was a salesmans model from Chris Craft. It measured about 3-4′ long and was beautiful. They wanted $600 for it, and I couldn’t pull the trigger. I will see if I have a picture of it.

Steve, I have a feeling that’s not the only mistake you have ever made. That for me was a no brainier. I once bought a rusty old pedal car for $1200. My wife got pissed but soon changed her tune when I quickly sold it foe $3000

… and with the repeat bid the winner made at the end of the auction he/she was willing to go even higher than the $2125 winning bid!!!!!!!!

Many, many years ago at an auction of old boat motors in St. Paul I bought for $600 a rusty Scrips V-12 (I think) on a cradle, had a friend load it with his bucket loader onto his trailer, brought it home and shoved it into my garage on pipe rollers. Advertised it in Hemmings at $1500. On Thanksgiving Day 1982, had a call from Alan Furth who bought it. He sent a truck with a lift gate to pick it it up. Couldn’t do it. Sent two trucks with lift gates and spread the load across the two, that did it and off it went to California, never to be seen again.
