What Every Boat Shop Needs – A Stripper Pole

The most diverse strippers in the USA
Well, its cold and rainy and I had time off, but no boating, and the railway is clean, what can I do with my hands? A STRIPPER POLE will help. What? You pervs, I literally mean a stripper pole. Or a pole with strippers on it, which actually sounds the same. Paint and varnish strippers. Hey I am scraping by with the stories here!

Big ones small ones
Which I may need to be specific here. NOT scantily clad women, or Paint- chip-endales. Just a wood pole, with some stripping tools on it. No not a g-string, more like a Model No 82 Stanley scraping tool, and some custom seam stripper tools from Art, or some custom made ones that George made. All displayed and stored in a fun way. You wont forget where the strippers are will ya.

Disassembled and cleaned up

Love me some old tools

Like a centerfold – Likes, old varnish, old paint, and old men.

Arts special seam strippers made from old can openers
And for those of you…okay and me, a little history on the Stanley No 82 Scraper And yes, I know they are scrapers not strippers, but used in a certain way do an amazing job. No chemicals, and if you keep them razor sharp, need very little effort to work.

Another WoodyBoater teaching day!
Sad, isnt it.
My first paying job was at a marina in Deep Creek, VA, working at a railway where I did odd jobs in between scraping barnacles off freshly hauled boats. The railway was a carbon copy of the RMR. I can still hear my old boss saying, “Make sure you get all them nickles off, boy”. The nickles were round dots left after the main part of the barnacle was scraped off. After a long 90 deg day under a boat, I would literally jump off the end of the pier just to get the chips and stink off.
You have some epic barnacle scrapers in your collection!
I am going to watch for these when I’m antiquing now.
Damn! that scraper is neat….and an old tool I don’t have….John in finally wet Va.
Nice scraper/stripper. Liked it and just purchased one off of eBay. Several available. Now I need to get another boat to scrape!
Interesting, but are you scraping by on stories? 🙂
Only you, Matt, could make something so pure, clean, wholesome and fun with nice ladies and a pole into something so tawdry and unclean, what with your tired varnish and old scrappy paint. Shame, Shame !!
I’ve used Bahco brand scrapers. They really do work well on scraping off topside paint and varnish. The bottom paint is still a bit of a chore, but if the blade is sharp and you use care, it does a good job. I love those old tools! They add a bit of history and dare I say “charm” to a work space.
