What Sort Of Art Is State Of The Art.

,

SAVE ME!

One of the fun things about keeping HQ alive and real is making sure all the old stuff is still working. After all, it would be easy to just go buy all new state of the art stuff. But what sort of art is that?  Yes, not that art. Anyway. recently the large motor stopped working on the old band saw. Which is not to be confused with a potential country music song, I’m Werk’n on My Old Banjo. Or, I’d rather be working on my old banjo than my old band saw.

The OG band saw.

ANYWAY….. I want to save the old motor. Its been working for decades and I am sure its something dumb. So I removed it. Weighs about 100 lbs. YIKES, and the motor place. ROYS Electric Motor in Richmond is the Go to place.

Been around for ever and they had done the work on it 22 years ago. So And my best gues is that any old beast like this is better than the new stuff. AND, it just looks better. Like I said, What sort of art is state of the art.  Maybe a folk song…

I like my points rare, not burned

And they are rare

ANYWAY…. Turns out the points are fried. They melted together. AND, guess what. Those points are not around, or a replacement. The replacement is a WEG motor who is who bought Franklin Motors. And they don’t have the points. SO. I ahev reached out to some folks and they too are having some issues. AND there may be a work around according to ROYS, and we are also working on that. BUT thats not as fun as trying to find the correct points in some sort of place. After all isn’t that why it wasn’t thrown away?

The Data plate

SO, Again.. I am calling everyone out there. Do you have a set of points for a Franklin Electric Motor?

Probably a long shot, but you might try Columbus Electrical Works Co., 1854 South High St., Columbus OH 43207, (614) 294-4651. They’ve been around for a long time and have done good work for me.

Hope you can find the parts to save the old motor. Or have new ones made? Modern tools can’t match the cool factor or the longevity of vintage ones. Crew Chief bought most of his engine shop tools from a friend of my dad’s & most are older than I am.
