What’s Tucked Away Today!
Thanks to fellow Woody Boater Roger Martin for giving us a fun thing to do today while the Northeast is under some snoooowwwww! Also a reminder to make sure your Hagerty Insurance is up to date! Take it away Roger,
Here is a thought I had to put a smile on the Woody Boater faces while they are waiting for the big east coast snow to dump on then. How about a segment of What’s in the Garage and people can send in photos of their poor unused boats sleeping the winter away just waiting for spring to come. Just an idea.
Well! Lets warm up Woody Boaterville today! Share your tucked away Woody Boat!
While we are talking about Hagerty and boats being tucked away its a good time to remind folks to check their roofs. These pictures were last March when we thought the snow was gone off the roof. What we couldn’t see was 4′ of wet heavy snow on the back side. Please check your roofs, the whole roof.
There were 5 woodies in this building
Thanks for the reminder. PLEASE DO CHECK ROOFS, also if your boats been outside, check the cover.. Wait.. Anyone reading this wont have forgotten there boat outside.. Check your family room roof.. There thats more like it
I can’t get a picture of Panther put away because it’s still snowing and the travel ban has yet to be lifted. Looking forward to others pictures.
In the Lake George pic, how were the boats lifted on to the bunks? And how are the boats supported?
Not sure, Kent should know and may chime in. Here is another from Kent O. Smith Jr while we wait
Les Cheneaux Islands, Fall 2014. Many a boat tucked away in their boathouses, just like this.
Here is the stern of American Beauty last week when I was taking the rails off to bring them home to feed my Varnish Addiction.
And here is Yorktown from last winter in the “boat barn”. The swim platform in the foreground is off AB, gives a little size perspective.
The old days on Lake Hopatcong
Troy, the snow is heading your way, hope the boat barn roof doesn’t overload today…
Here in St. Louis we have been lucky (knock on some mahogany) with only 1/2″ of the white stuff all winter. By this time last year we had 2-feet by this time. The boats around here will be pulled out of winter storage and on their way to the St. Louis Boat & Sports Show next week. Hope the weather cooperates around here.
Going back to yesterday’s story, these winter boat shows are an extreme “labor of love”. Our ACBS Chapter is usually treated very well, the display is usually voted “most favorite” by attendees. this helps in getting a good location in the Convention Center, but only if space is available. One year they put us in an emergency exit lobby, then set us up with a small booth space on the main floor so that we could direct curious visitors to the display that was tucked into the remote lobby. Worked out, though it was extra work getting trailers through narrow doors.
So some of our boats will be out in the weather for a while
My hat is off to anyone willing to pull their boat out of storage, drag it through salty slush, to put it on display at a winter boat show.

I had a comment on here, dont know how it disappeared.
ANYWAY…
What I was saying is that, I built a 35’l x 12’w x 11.5’h shelter for my Lyman so I can work on it over the winter. It was just under $1000 to build, which included, Fence Post holders for the grass side and concrete side, Lumber and Shrink Wrap. Inside I have a 30,000-80,000 btu heater along with lights on both ends and in the middle. Works very well for the price! I left 4 inches open on the bottom so air can circulate nicely.
Take a look at this link here <a href"http://1drv.ms/1zYEOef" title"Boat Shelter".
Our two boats and a car shoehorned into the garage!
It’s gonna be in the 60’s today in Oklahoma! The boats are itching to go for a cruise.
I have wanted to share my winter structures for some time. Here is “Knot to Shabby” under cover.
She’s in there somewhere!
My 1952 Riviera inside and my 77 Vette outside, here in Holmdel, NJ
Here she is ready to exit.
A pair of U-22s
A pair of 30′ Canoes
Old town 25′ War canoe
16′ canoe behind it and several overhead and a couple dozen engines
This is where my boat spent many a winter before I purchased it back in the day.
I almost beat the snow…..
And then there is this one. It’s been here a while
Kinda looks like a hoarder owns this barn.
A few things “tucked away” … Here’s the main one – dirty, been working in the shop!
And the other active one…
My parking/storage problem: 1947 Chris Craft front right, horse trailer behind, 2005 Cobalt next to horse trailer, with Ford 150 to haul parked in front.
Storage building on retirement to do list.
