Why I Pick The Pics I Pick – Holly Weber Day

There is a serenity to this image, technically flawless. But the real magic is how the couple is sitting close to each other. Love can be communicated in the blink of an eye. Or shutter click
Today we celebrate Holly Weber and her amazing images. WARNING, I am going to pontificate as to why each shot is amazing. She has a way of capturing the humanity of our community/passion/hobby. I have spent the last 45 years of my career picking images for ads, posters, films, you name it, thats part of the job. Curating and trying to find the magic in a photo or illustration. Looking through Holly’s photo’s is a true joy because they paint a joyful image. Okay, enough set up, lets start look’n.

The way Holly captured all the curves in this is actually quite complex. And a wonderful still life and study

The composition in this image is amazing. Balanced yet not centered or boring

The way she cropped this says it all. Long boat, sweeping long wave like action. And that channel marker just nails it

A moment in time up at HOWE Marine. WONDERFUL

At The Anderson Museum.. Same concept of lights, just a different way to express it. This is a very inviting image

The light is fantastic. but the dog, and the little girls finger is PERFECT. without that little point, the shot might be just a nice shot. But there is a wonderful story unfolding here.

You can feel his pride

There is a story here. Captured in one mila second. I am going to guess, she is out with her father for a special weekend. Thats the G rated version. The other is, well..

Some smiles are true. The way all the whites in this image work together is amazing. Blue whites, warm whites.. WOW

Note all the curves. The hat, the transom, even the fender/bumper works. And that little hint of fall in the tree color reenforces the mahogany finish

A wonderful moment. Getting ready to go out. The sailboat in the upper right nails it for me. It breaks the horizon and gives the image depth

I love the lettering, and clearly Susan at the helm, just doing her thing, and thats Holly and her husband. But.. then who took this image. Kent O Smith.. HA! Great eyes

You can feel the early morning air – BOB Kays getting ready to go shoot some of his magic

AMAZING. The contrast, size and color, the guy standing.. the mask, the oars, all these little details add up to a wonderful quilt of dappled light working in harmony. BTW, I have no idea what any of that really means, but it sure sounded good

This would be just another wake jump shot. But the driver and his hat make it so fun!

Ya thats me, and yes, that captured my real emotion. I love the waves that parallel the Century

Just a guy out on his boat. There is a deeper story in this image. Seth has retired from it all, and this was his last ride in Thayer IV.

Headed out for a day of magic

Okay, this shot is insane. The light, the way the boat cuts through the blue grey with a slice of white water. That little sun sparkle on the bow says sunrise. And the way they are looking out on the water. WOW. Okay, the fact that I think this is Bo and Kathy Muller and where it was shot, in fact most of these images is crazy. After doing this for 20 years, you do get to know all of you and where and so on. And if that isn’t Bo and Kathy, then, well, just another botched item in another badly spelled story

Another great – Steve Lapkin doing his splain’n

And Sir Kent O. Smith Jr of the magic eye family

Julie Bullen, who always makes a great moment better

Emily Weber, Holly’s daughter with a magical smile,

The suspicious look on her face cracks me up and is a perfect example of what makes Holly’s images special. CHARM

The dark background sure makes this a perfect shot

How many feild of dream shots have we seen? but this one could be a painting. WOW. Timeless as well, the hub cap makes it.

Note, it’s an amazing shot of the Sea Sled, but the guy on the left looking right in the camera is what makes it.

And this might be one of my faves. The spray on the windshild, the wheel off to the side, but restored perfectly. Even the hand on the left says something. , there is also a symmetry to it all, both right hands extended, and coaxing your eye to the right, With the flag blowing also in that direction. while the driver looks. forward.
Okay thats it, I am all pontificated out. I have spewed some snooty artsy crap all over the web page now. And my day is off to a great start because of it. Thanks Holly for the images. And yes I spelled Weber correctly this time.

I had to look at all those images twice because they are sooo good. They summarize the good times we have in so many ways enjoying our passion. Thank you Holly and Matt for a great start to a rainy gloomy day in Michigan. I really enjoyed the experience!
Oh, and I really hope to meet Holly some day.
Wonderful person, amazing photos, we are lucky to have her talents.
Holly and others create and deliver such a critical component, both in the depth and enjoyment of our passion. Imagine our world without images.
….We would be stuck with just a misspelled mishmash of thoughts
Love Holly’s work. And Matt, I really appreciate your keen art director’s eye in choosing your favorite shots… and why.
BTW: Is that Ward Cleaver at the helm of that Sea Sled?
Woodyboater has provided an amazing assortment of so many photographs that I’ve saved/copied over the past few years. So much photographic talent in this hobby. Thank you all for your talents and for sharing them for all to enjoy.
MS. WEBER – as featured in The Brass Bell, Issue 2, 2025…….brava!

What an amazing selection of images!!! I also like the commentary.
The shot of Julie at BHM caught my attention as Melody is spending the summer there.
Just a dock shot, but there is a 41 Nord behind Melody, the sky is interesting, and the flag on the left adds that splash of color and patriotism.
Beautiful photos.
Wow! I am humbled by this post and comments, thank you very much.
Love them all!
