Classic Boating Destination of the Week

We’re going to jump around a little this week. We will start in Arkansas and jump to New Mexico. What?, New Mexico? Woody Boater listed it as one of three Water Free States so, being from the “Show-Me State” I had to see for myself. So read on….

The Hartland Classics Chapter of The ACBS kicks off their boating season the last weekend in March in beautiful Garvan Gardens, Hot Springs, Arkansas. It’s The Garvan Gardens Antique and Classic Boat Show. It’s the same weekend as the Sunnyland Show in Florida. So if Florida is not feasible this year, this one may be the show for you. For participants it’s a fun-packed weekend beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday. The boat show hours are Saturday, 10:00 – 4:00 and Sunday, 10:00 – 2:00 for visitors. Come to view beautiful antique and classic boats on Hamilton Lake and see thousands of Tulips, Azaleas and Dogwoods in full bloom in Garvan Woodland Gardens. Another great way to begin the boating season.

New Mexico:

Now, I thought it may be interesting to see just how dry it really is in one of the “so-called” Water Free States. Here’s a quick look at New Mexico.

Well, what do you know! There is plenty of the stuff there. There’s no ACBS Chapter and only one ACBS 2007 member resides in the entire state. Why??? Look at this, there are numerous Lakes statewide, just not many antique and classic boaters. Their largest lake is Elephant Butte Lake on the Reo Grande River with marinas, lodging, an RV park, 35,000 plus acres of clear water, a State Park, and 200 miles of shoreline. If you love the Southwest as we do, this would be a great destination for the Woody Boater.

Just do it, you won’t regret it.

Well. Arkansas I get. Home of the razorbacks. They eat Muskrat in Arkansas…. Actually a very cool place.

New Mexico? Now renamed The ElLoboACBS State. Poor Guy. Its like Dances With Wolves. Out there in the vast desert. A single ACBS member, waiting for a show. Even in a mall. Anything? Looking through magazines, playing with wood dumas models in his tub. I propose a road trip. We can bring supplies. Varnish, sand paper, a can of Duplex oil?

We could bring him some fresh baked Muskrat too. I don’t think they have those out there.

Maybe he should charter his own ACBS Chapter. Elections would be easy enough. “The floor is open for nominations….”

I may see if I can get his attention and have him visit our site.
