Got Dora? Why Lake Dora Is So Important!

Lake Dora in one photo!
For many of us on the planet, we have been in a sort of hibernation. It’s an annual thing of course. Winter. But for the past year it’s been a little more wonky with COVID and well. The entire 2020 thing. Insert dumpster fire image here. Anyway. Back to annual and the need for Lake Dora. The Sunnyland Lake Dora event is far far far more than another boat show. It’s the start of the season for us. It’s the party we all prep for, it’s a routine, a holiday, a rebirth. It’s hope, and a sweet breath of varnished air, mixed in with all the deep fried food smells of summer all rolled up into one weekend.

Merica!
Funny thing about deprivation. When you have been on a routine, and it stops, you notice how important it is. Like the Got Milk campaign. It was all about what it’s like when you don’t have what has been taken for granted.

I miss this
Many of you will still be there, a SHOWUP, vs A SHOW, and that’s fantastic, enjoy yourself, but it won’t be the same. It’s like celebrating Christmas alone in your apartment with your Charlie Brown Tree and a can of beer. It’s Christmas Day, but is it really Christmas? No!

party at the Harrisons!
The ceremonial part of Dora is so important. The countdown, the chicken on a stick, the walk around, the, the , the FLORIDA Crazy! The Dinner, the hello party on Thursday night. All of it.

The Docks at Dora are rebuilt
The good news is there will always be a Lake Dora, and Dock Damage, Hurricanes, Pandemic, Locusts, Asteroids, whatever is thrown at us, Dora will always be the start of the Summer. It will always be the trigger to get out there and refresh your varnish, and tune up the motor in your mind!

AHHHHHH!
So On to Dora, only 366 Days until .. wait.. WTH? OH OH OH Gad Zooks! This will not stand. STAY TUNED! We got Dora Stuff out the wazoo! And I refuse to take this sitting down. Wait, I will take it sitting down. In front of my key board. I got photo shop, I have “people ” there. F THIS CRAP. F=Forget BTW.. BTW= By The Way.. BTW..

blub, blub, blub, blub
Nothing like boating to the classiest joint on the Ocklawaha.
Do we have dates for 2022 yet?
It’s not the same we need a SHOW!!!
I am glad that I was able to experience Dora once, but listening to all the talk about it, without bringing my boat down, I missed out on a lot of things. Next year the continental should be completed and ready for a road trip. I can’t wait to experience the river trip.
Steve:
I have been to Dora both ways (with and without a boat). It is awesome how generous people are in taking others who did not bring a boat with them, but rest assured that having your own boat there is a LOT better! It is also worth turning the trip into a few weeks, at least.
Oh and the river cruise is amazing!
We winter in Astor FL on the St. John river (about 33.1 miles from Mt Dora) and I can tell you from the huge amount of boat traffic and the openness of the area, including the State of FL, I’m really surprised that they are not having the show. I’m NOT looking forward to going back to the shut down state of MI in about a month.😎

Done……..recording.
Michigan says that there are still rules, but the stores, restaurants and roads are all very crowded. I don’t know how much different it would be ‘opened up’
Matt -,Well tomorrow have a Dora virtual show
Let’s have everyone who was going to Dora bring a boat virtually
