What in the world it this? Look at that tumblehome, the blonde decks, and it must be running a V drive. Would love to read a story just about this one boat. VERY COOL!

Looks like a Philbrick.
As I stare at the photo it appears to have been built around a late 50’s automobile interior…(Chrysler?). Look at the windshield, the slots for the roll up windows and the way the convertible top lays in there just like you would expect to find on a convertible. When they wake up out west we will get the real scoop.
That is a Philbrick. It was featured in a Classic Boating issue a number of years ago. If I remember correctly, the hull was built around Philbrick’s Chrysler 300 and features the dash, seats, top, engine, and working windows. The 300 was wrecked, I think – thus the concept. I’m sure somebody from the area will have the full scoop. If I recall………..it goes fast like a 300 does.

Its a 1969 Philbrick built in Oakland CA. Don Philbrick bought a new Chrysler Imperial convertible in 1957 and it was totaled shortly there after. He took windshield, instrument panel, power windows, seats, convertible top off the car and built this boat using them. Currently located at the Tahoe Maritime Museum. Very cool.
Thank you all for your comments about C-Car. She is one of our prized artifacts! John gave you all the correct information above. It took Philbrick ten years to finish C-Car. He began construction in 1959 and she was launched in 1969. If any one is in the Reno/Tahoe area, C-Car is on display in our Collection Storage Facility in Reno which is open for tours on the 3rd Saturday of the month.

I am curious what the story is behind “My Sin”… Is that really “My Sin” or is that a very nice replica? “Tempo VI” (originally “My Sin”) is in Lee Anderson’s collection and was just photographed as the “Tempo VI” this spring/summer… So did Mr. Anderson restore it back to “My Sin” configuration in a just a few weeks or has someone built a replica?
Hi Brian – Here is a shot of Tempo VI G-13 1938 that I shot a few weeks ago during a visit to Lee Andersons museum in Nisswa, MN. It’s been there since Lee & Penny purchased it in 2014.
And a zoom shot of the sign board which tells the history of Tempo VI G-13 1938 from the Anderson Classic Boats Museum.
And here is what Tempo VI looks like in the water, from the 2014 Gull Lake Boat Show at Bar Harbor. The Allison sounds great!
Texx, that is where I thought “Tempo VI” was residing… So my question is, where did the “My Sin” Ventnor hydroplane pictured above in Tahoe come from? This is obviously not the original “My Sin” as we know where that boat is at this very moment…
I have always lusted after the Tempo as it came out west when I was just a tiny kid… Joe even took me for a ride when he had it at the Portland boat show! Of course that was probably 15-20 years ago… I saw it at the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum in September 2013, and even told my father it was a shame it was just drying out there are so many great years of being used… Then not even a year later it shows up here on WB sitting in the water at the Gull Lake Boat show!!
This My Sin is a 2012 replica, powered by a 502 engine at 530 hp according to the South Tahoe souvenir handbook.
I really appreciated that the Arena Craft was shown by the son, or grandson of Dan Arena….He provide anyone who was interested, vivid details of the boat, production run, Arena Craft history and Dan Arena’s racing history. Many of the boat owners were either with their boat and/or had detailed fact sheets concerning the history and data on their boat.
