Saturday Live-ish From Hessel – As Wood As It Gets
Thanks to Fellow WoodyBoaters Chad Durren and his father March, we have the latest images from Saturday at the 33rd Annual Les Cheneaux Islands Antique Wooden Boat Show, in Hessel, Michigan. Peoples Choice Award at this year’s event was awarded to “BOLO BABE” a stunning 1926 33′ Gar Wood Triple owned by John Allen, from Gull Lake, MN.
With over 150 entries expected for the big boat show this year, there were lots of antique & classic wooden boats to see for anyone who was lucky enough to be there. And it looks like the crowds were out in full force for the show. The area around Hessel Michigan is rumored to have possibly the highest concentration of Chris-Craft boats in the country, due to the proximity to the Chris-Craft manufacturing plants back in the day.

Great post thanks Texx. How cool is that aluminium Garwood!!!! Please set Matt on a mission to find out more about her. That is one very cool and collectable boat. Thanks for including the Coronado in your post. The Cadillac of boats alright. If anyone wants what looks to be a very very very good one take a look at http://www.mahoganybay right now and you will see that Todd is selling his fully restored one. Actually why am I telling everyone , I want it.
Philip.
What a show. Thanks for the pictures Chad and Texx.
Have you taken a closer look at that Continental Sedan? The "Mini-Me" model on the motor box even has the mini life jackets just like the real one. They need to put a model of the model on model's motor box. At what point do you stop?!?! It becomes like a black hole in space.
I was at the Hessel show last Saturday and at the awards presentation I believe the unlimited Hydroplane won best of show not BOLO-BABE.I do beieve BOLO-BABE won the Hagery award
Thanks for pointing that out, I messed up the awards / winners. Hopefully I'll get the list of all the winners soon.
Can someone please tell me the Marina where the photos are taken- thanks
