Headed to “The Office” 8AM
This year, with the new Special V8 WECATCHEM has become a different boat. A user boat, and I love it. Once I was able to emotionally let go of the perfection thing, she became 100% more fun. I have experienced this before I am about to sell a boat, because I stop caring about the perfection thing, and just enjoy.
8:02 AM – Are we there yet?
Stuff over the summer has piled up
Some interior parts need a fix
Varnish for sure is in need
Just great reliable slow rides
Tools used for linkage adjustments
This year, with my TRENDY Railway and where I live, I have been lucky to live some CAR FREE days. Days without any car, just boat, and internet. Even Mr B gets a tad confused which door to go to when we head to “The Office” Even though I will no doubt be boating through the winter, SWEET PEA, I do think yesterday might have been my official last gasp. WECATCHEM is headed to Katz’s For her big refresh and prep for Lake Dora in the Spring.
Pulling up to the Railway
He has learned to clear the varnish. But not to wait before we tie up.
8:04 AM – a 5 minute commute
Early sunlight is magic
We spent the day painting more red. The door on the right will have a Painted Window It’s the original door. But kinda a wall. Also patched the roof since the weather is going to go to hell this week.
Backing out for Lunch at home./ Same scene after lunch.
Back after lunch to work on SWEET PEA
Mr B helps with taping
Fence, Done, Paint, Done ish. Roof patched, We will see. Sweet Pea, waiting on part. Just another day in paradise
Let’s go home Mr B! Its flop on the sofa time.
Headed home in the afternoon 3PM
I am happy and sad all in one. But capturing life’s great moments helps during the cold winter months
Paradise for sure. Glad to see you are putting hours on Wecatchem. Winterizing boats here In Michigan. Boating coming to an end.
Is that a B-C fire extinguisher on the floor? Maybe put all that stuff in a 5 gallon bucket so you can use the bucket as a backup.
Pulled Yorktown Saturday.
I am a little surprised with the longitudinal difference that our last day was only one day apart, but you are still in a T-shirt while we were bundled in jackets and blankets.
Heading out for a lunch cruise on Band-Aids today. She gets pulled in two weeks.
“Woody” was out for a couple cold beers on a wonderful Wisconsin Sunday afternoon!
What is the problem with Wecatchem that requires professional treatment that you can’t provide in your wonderful new shop?
I dont have the talent, or clean room, heat, patience..
Don’t be sad that it’s over, be glad that it happened!
The problem with perfection, whether it’s cars or boats or whatever, is that it is elusive, subjective, and always evolving. A “perfect” boat from the 80’s or the 90’s wouldn’t pass muster today. And the “perfection” of a factory original boat, if you could somehow find one, wouldn’t cut it either. Production boat building of those days never lent itself to such high level of detail.
So as subjective as “perfect” is, maybe you have found your own definition-a nice, usable boat, used for boating ( not showing ) blemishes and all, just as the designers and builders intended it!!
who took the header picture? certainly not matt, his eyes are closed.
i think mr b is bored
Matt, I have to say that was one of your very best postings. You expressed so much emotion in pictures and words. Us Woody Boaters are all such fortunate people and you are a prime example of that!
That one really touched me!
Great post today thanks Matt. The thought of boating to work then home is a dream come true. Fantastic.
I would think your facial expression would convey happy. The Look doesn’t show it, rather more emotionless. How could that be with a ride in that boat perfect boat and headed to the such a now trendy site? It looks like an expression of some sort of non boating work in the back of your mind.
Boats are meant to be used! That’s a user Woody Boater T-Shirt, as well.
Good story today Matt, however in the one picture you look upset. Perhaps Mr. B scratched that beautiful deck, or poked a hole in that gorgeous dash pad. That’s the kind of things that turn a perfect boat into a user boat. All my boats except Little One are winterised and put away. Dock comes out next week. Water in the U P will start freezing in about six weeks.
I was very happy! Inside.. Thats the best happiness.. MR makes me belly laugh daily. I was just holding the camera out asnd shooting.
Don’t forget Matt “Perfection is the Enemy of Good” (My perfectly restored 56 year old glove box door from my 66 Chevrolet, when car’s didn’t have cup holders).
That is one sweet glove box door.
