Another Day, Another Coat.

100% epifanes. Using the rapid coat, and then the clear varnish.
Wayne’s big ass garage is beyond perfect. The light, and warmth are amazing. I wish I could make the railway that way, but its in no way set up for that. I am halway thinking of an additional work room though for varnishing and working in the colder months. But Gotta say, this is also real nice. CLEAN and organized. Anyway, it’s build coat time. And should be able to knock out two a day in this room. I am at coat 5 now and two more and I am gonna sand the crap out of it. I am sanding between coats and finding little areas. But its comeing along real nice like.

MR B is truly enjoying the warmth, he is NOT a cold weather poochy

The transom is comeing out slick

The left side. Port, looks like it all never happend…. From this far away

Still smiling

Clean bige. I custom mixed the grey to match an area under a seat. More of a slight green tinted grey

Its a wonderful color, and with the blue pre war blue engine will really be nice

This is stil a gloss finish, I will say..so I will, the light it EVERYTHING. You varnish with the light and feel of the brush. Its kinda cool when it works, AND MISERABLE when it doesn’t. That final coat kinda decides for itsself that that is that.

Coming along

You can see the two tones of grey here. The bluer grey was the first coat. The lighter is the color match

This gives you some perspective of Waynes Big Ass Garage

Best man cave ever with an overhead hoist, white walls & ceiling and best of all heat in the winter.
its a perfect space for this.
That is a great space.
Project coming along nicely. Ya know that one of those wall mount heat pumps would be all you really need down there to take you through 11 months of the year…
Wayne’s got a fantastic workspace! I love the ceiling height and lighting! B, the boat, is looking really good! I enjoy seeing Mr B as well! He’s looking good too! One thing that you have at HQ is the view out the shop door! That is magical!
Your generous Christmas gift of art (not that Art) is duly noted. I think it was actually a gift to all of us in WB Ville, I appreciated it, I am sure others do to. Thank you!
I had a close friend many years ago who inherited over $25M. I saw how much pleasure she got deciding who to give it away to, and the discussions we had was fun for me too! The primary recipient was the Pacific Lutheran University Theater, she believed in education, and the arts. May she rest in Peace.
B sitting next to Wayne’s newer, bigger boat reminded me of one of the for sale photos of mine before I bought it. They had it sitting in the display room at Walstrom Marine in Harbor Springs for awhile. What a contrast of old vs new, classic vs modern and the size perspective of these cute little boats.
She’s looking amazing Matt.
My thoughts and questions for the day.
1) I don’t know if you are going for the Katz 20 coats of varnish, but IMHO for a good user boat that is going to get very little use anything above 5 coats is good. Maybe that’s what you mean by “That final coat kinda decides for itsself that that is that.”
2) I was going to ask how you chose Epifanes when America’s Best is an advertiser/sponsor? Now I see that America’s Best is no longer on the side bar and Epifanes is. I think Pettit was a sponsor for a while.
3) Do you plan on sticking with the high gloss or are you going to do the pumice rub to get the satin finish. Inquiring minds what to know!
Are you applying strictly with brush, or roller and brush?
Matt, get a MIRKA sanding block with the mesh sandpaper (Comes on a roll) 240/320. Hook that baby up to the shop vac and you’ll have virtually a dust free sanding experience.
