Barnes Craft Boat Back Home Again!
Built on Lake Hopatcong, this 1948 Barnes Craft sedan is the only one known to exist. She is now back at Lake Hopatcong after spending some time out wondering around the country.
She is now parked at Katz’s Marina awaiting her time in the chamber of perfection at Katz’s. “Shangra La” sports a 1948 Chrysler dash, a Chris Craft M engine and lots of history.
The interior has copper in place of inside planks. The owner was in the plumbing supply business and had access to copper sheets, the roof of his house was and is copper, now a nice shade of green.
If you want to know more history, here is a typed version by Joan Brack.
We will be updating the progress of this preservation/restoration from time to time. Our hats of to Katz’s for saving a Lake Hopatcong Treasure.
Sometimes I wonder about our country, too!
Ok.. I guess.
“wondering” should be “wandering”.
Just add it to the WB Dictionary.
Yes.. The Dictionary is growing strong.
This is one cool boat. I have been on it. It is also great to see it back on the lake after all these years.
That’s “diconary”, not “dictionary”. And, is this boat not in one of Bob Speltz’s books? I seem to remember a photo of a boat named “Shangri-La”? Just “wandering”, LOL.
Gents:
Good news. You can wonder and wander at the same time. Or, if you prefer, you can wander and wonder at the same time. Yes, it’s true! You don’t have to choose one or t’other. And, it works both ways!
In fact, people have been in simultaneous wonderment and wanderment since 1933.

Those of you of Germanic descent can have it even better. If happen to have a tic tac with you, you can be in wanderment and wonderment and wandermint at the same time.
And now, back to our regularly scheduled program.
Love that Chrysler dashboard!!
We need more boats with automotive dashes…..
Anyone have a pic of Don Philbricks’ runabout with a Chrysler dash, wrap-around windshield, and operating convertible top?? Texx, get busy with your research!
James – I have a new research challenge, Thanks…
Feather Crafts & Philbricks…
I looked at this boat last year when down in Dora… We stayed at George and Yvonnee with our motorhome… They owned it and it was in the pole building behind the house… It is pretty cool… built narrow to fit in a boat house on Lake Hopocong… Other than being narrow it is very much like a CC sedan except for the interior… lots of stainless steel and the Chrysler dash… I thought their asking price was fair… I had hoped that it would go back to Hopocong…
