Happy Thanksgiving – Basting B With Some Yummy Awl-Fare

mmmm, basting her bottom
It was 70 here yesterday and I was rolling trying to get everything that needs warmer weather to set up done before the big chill for the rest of the week. As I side note, and a insight into my complete stupidity, I am itching like I have poison ivy. Sanding fiberglass is not a good thing to do without being in a haz mat suite. And do not rub the dust. YA YA YA, I know you know, but this is all new to me, and my hands feel like they are sand paper with little needles.

warm weather and fiberglass splinters
Okay now that is out of the way, I did sand a little with the glass, and then skim coated it all with some Awl – Fare. A product from Awe Grip, and a plastic spreader. And man oh man, it sure did a great job. I also was able to get some little spots patched where the glass didnt stick to the wood.

AWLFAIR is a two part fairing compound that goes on like butter.

Getting it on
AND as a bonus yesterday, George Butler came by and helped make some Sprayrails, or false chines to cap off the glass and give B a little more traction. Its a very subtle addition that helps dramatically and and allows for a solid cap on the glass. More on that later.

cut and ready
Hopefully I will be able to take advantage of some time off and get her primed, painted and flipped this weekend. And then it’s finish, and engine. Ding dang! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The WoodtBoater gravy boat is truly a Thanksgiving tradition!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of WoodyBoaterville from frigid and wind blown Michigan.
Greg,
Is that a weather station or a phone app?
Kitchen wall weather station
Nice! Looks very thorough.
Happy Thanksgiving! I finally accepted that boating season is over and winterized Daisy yesterday.
Bon appetit!
Happy Thanksgiving all! Have a blessed day!
Happy Thanksgiving Woodyboaterville! Matt, if you have trouble getting the spray rails to sit flat top and bottom, it might pay you to hollow out the back side to accommodate the edge of the glass. Or you could just grind the edge fair. Looks like you’re having a great time with B.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. B is looking wonderful. Does B stand for Matt’s “Baby”? ACBS had a great Thanksgiving greeting image if you didn’t see it.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. B the boat should be especially thankful for a new lease on life. Nice work. John in sunny Va.
Happy Thanksgiving! Matt, your discription of the fiberglass itch brought me back to my youth where I spent some time under the decks of a couple of fiberglass boats. Unfortunately not with young ladies, but doing wiring repairs and such. Always had that nasty itch for a while afterwards.
Happy Thanksgiving to all you Woody Boaters. Take the day off, and enjoy it. Remember the pilgrims were Woody Boaters also, and they didn’t have a 5200 bottom to cross that ocean on the Mayflower
Giving thanks for all my boating friends! Gotta go, the turkey is ready!
Thank goodness that turkey is at least decently dressed…….high heels & all….
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Misspent my youth preparing and racing hot rod sailboats. Lots of sanding and fairing fiberglass, lots of Itchy. Learned the beauty of a cold shower after work. Rinse off before your pores open! Thanks Griz!
