WoodyBoater, that last link was funny. I enjoyed that. It would definitely be something that I would be looking into should I drag home another restoration project. Good of you to include it.

    Matt-

Great post today. It is definitely of some historical import, and really, it could probably be bought for a price that is not ridiculous. I am not in the market for another project, but I would consider it if I was. My Gar was apparently the last Sedan shipped by them, about 10 days prior to the shipping date of the subject boat. I have sent this to a oouple of folks that might be interested.

I am sure that he boat will be acquired by some Gar aficionado and put right, and thanks for helping in making that a greater probability. The seller probaly thanks you as well!

I inquired with Tony Mollica in order to verify the seller's claim. Tony's definitive reply is quoted below:

"Hull #8028 was not the highest number for this model Gar Wood. Hull #8033 built in Marysville, another 18'-6" Gar Wood utility was shipped on 4/4/47 and is registered with the Gar Wood Society. There were probably 10 or 15 18'-6" Utilities shipped after this one from the Newport News plant. The highest hull number for the 18'-6" utility was #10677 from Newport News.

So hull #8028 was not the last one built nor the last one shipped. It's close to the end, but it's not the last one as claimed in the ad."

Sorry to discover this, but better to do so before someone bought it, only to be disappointed later. I did ask the seller some other questions about the boat, and he provided what seemed to be honest and genuine answers. I think he is just mis-informed. Lets hope, anyway

    Hi,
I am restoring a 1947 16'Ensen Garwood. can anyone tell me where the hull# would be stamped on the boat itself. The title says Garwood and has a Hin#. I believe it is a real Garwood, but I would like to verify. Thanks/John
