Thumbscrews? What?
You are thinking where in the hell is Matt going with todays story? One, you’re thinking? Okay okay.. Yesterday I asked about that hole in Stinky’s hatch. And for the life of me I can not figure it out. Makes no sense for a handle, but there is an area in the hatch for a latch and on the other hatch as well for some sort of receiver. Greg suggested that there may be some sort of lock, and after some digging, did find a Thumb Screw type latch described someplace as an option.
And to add to the confusion, I started googling, and with my A.D.D found myself looking at medieval torture devices. And so that happened this morning already and gotta admit. WTF? How do humans do such things to other humans? I mean we complain about Taylor Swift taking away from the football game time on TV, and being offended by whatever is offensive this minute, and back in the good old days, like pre, pre, pre, pre, pre war, they were, well F’d up. Like the IROM MAIDEN, and well, that I get.
I did check Stinkys Hull card and did not find it there either, although there is a reference to a part ordered?
I enjoy looking at the old hull cards. You could order a boat fully equipped and ready to use. When you buy a new boat today you get nothing but a key. All equipment and gear has to be bought separately.
But Greg no wizzzzz hole mentioned????
Wow, the things you find yourself thinking about! Sometimes I worry about Mr B. Did you find out what that tool in the first photo was used for? It is kinda cool in design.
Way back at some of the early shows I do remember seeing some boats with a handle in that area that was a catch to keep the hatches from bouncing while underway in the closed position the handle would be fore and aft if properly installed or not worn
Some also incorporated rods that got pushed out each end of the hatch and went into the hatch frame to lock it down
Can you be sure the hole is factory?
