2010 Lake Tahoe Concours – Saturday Awards Day- Breaking News..
Saturday at the Lake Tahoe Concours, lots of sunshine and big crowds on hand to see the show, as this was the first of two general admission days. Thunderbird was on display again for everyone to enjoy. This 1940 55′ John Hacker design by Huskin’s Boat & Motor Works features twin 1,100 hp each 12-cylinder Allison V-1710 engines.
We can’t report on Tahoe without including some photos of classic Riva’s, there was 5 or six entered in this year’s Concours and they were all stunning to say the least! “Saphir II” (above) is a 1963 22′ Riva Super Ariston owned by David & Diane Paul from Los Angeles, CA.
Here’s “Tievoli” a 1969 27′ Riva Aquarama powered by Twin 220 hp GM Crusader V-8’s.
Below is “Lollipop” a beautiful 1948 19′ Chris-Craft Racing Runabout owned by Stephen & Cheryl Caplan from Los Gatos, CA.
Honorary Chief Judge and President of the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club Terry Fiest (left) with fellow Judge Ralph Wallen from Kelseyville, CA. Ralph also owns “The Quiver” a rare 1959 19′ Chris-Craft Silver Arrow which has been a multi-time winner at boats shows across the county.
“Sun Tripper II” is a great looking 1967 Century Arabian sporting a 300 hp ford V-8. A popular ski boat back in the day with the swivel driver’s seat. This boat has spent all it’s life on Lake Tahoe and was originally shipped from the Century factory in 1967 to Sierra Boat Company. The boat is in original condition, but I think the old ski jacket has been modified to improve the fit some where along the way…..
On Saturday afternoon a number of the race boats fired up their engines for the crowd. Antique engine specialist John Allen getting ready to fire up the 4-cylinder Peerless race engine in award winning “Houston Girl” for the folks to hear.
The crowd gathers and loves to hear the different engines come to life and applauded afterwords, it was fun to watch the reactions.
“Mountain Lyon” is a spectacular 1932 28′ Sea Lyon owned by Lee & Sandy Chase.
“Mountain Lyon” is powered by a huge Lycoming aircraft engine.
“Miss Lucy” (below) is a 1930 22’6″ Dart Boats Inc Runabout powered by a 120 hp Chrysler Imperial engine. Dart Boats opened January 15, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio. The owner, Adm. Webb C. Hayes II purchased the rights to build the Dart from the Indian Lake Boat Company in Lima, Ohio. The company had a short history, closing it’s doors on April 1, 1933 with the depression and the end of prohibition.
The Dart Runabouts had some very unique hardware and script and if you are ever lucky enough to see an original Dart in person, you immediately know what it is by the hardware. “Miss Lucy” is owned by Jun Morris from Bellevue, Washington.
On Saturday night an Exhibitor’s BBQ and Awards Presentation was held at Sierra Boat Company and the awards were presented by Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation President David Olson and Honorary Chief Judge Terry Fiest for the various categories of boats in attendance for this years Concours.
Here is a list of Perpetual Trophies which were awarded on Saturday, but there are many other awards for the different classes of boats which will be listed on the Lake Take Concours web site on Sunday.

I have heard that Antique boat center has a killer 1938 Chris Craft 19 Runabout in for restoration and that they have made new copper dump pipes for chris Craft K engines. Do you have any info that you can share with us?

Way to go Jun for his fabulous boat Miss Lucy. I met June at the ACBS national show in Coeur d'Alene and also at the Portland Oregon show – super nice guy. I can’t think of a better recipient than Jun.

Rob – I had the pleasure of visiting with Jun Morris a few times during the Tahoe Concours and learn about "Miss Lucy." It was great to see Jun win the award for Overall Best of Show.
The photos included a couple of fiberglass boats the last couple of days but I thought they were to be featured this year, according to the ads. They're understandably a separate category but saw no mention of them in Awards. Where are they?

Hi Al – I am planning to do a story later this week to summarize the fiberglass section of the 2010 Lake Tahoe Concours with some additional entry photos, class awards, etc.
Also will include some thoughts on the fiberglass side of the hobby and it's future growth, etc.
