AMAZING! The Boat.. not that “thing” in the background. BTW, that “thing” probebly cost more than The real boat… Yup, and one day. soon, that “thing will be worth bupkis and the real boat. Maybe more.
A HUGE shoutout to Looooooooooongtime fellow Woody Boater Dane Anderson for sending in this report from Gull Lake. Not of course to be confused with the big ACBS International there in September. Although, let’s be honest with our decomposing brain cells.. It could be confusing, Then again, finding your..my ..car keys can be confusing.
Good god! Oh there are my keys
So let’s just say sure, it’s just one big month long event. One could say, so I will, you could head over, up, or down to Gull Lake anytime and find a festival of Woodyboatness. Although, you may want to wait til the big show now, since this show is already going. Hence the report. Hit it Dane!
Yup! She is now On Gull Lake.
Lee Anderson bring in Miss America IX
The Annual Gull Lake Classic boat show is today (Saturday). Once again we kicked things off with a Friday lunch at Bar Harbor and a cruise of Gull Lake for the early attendees. We were in and out of the clouds during the cruise but it was a great day on the water. Once the cruise was over the clouds cleared for a sunny evening at the docks.
MISS AMERICA and Mr Merica.
Here are a few shots of the cruise and a taste of what to see at the show today.
Oh hell ya! Not the naked man BTW, the boat. – 1978 Glastron Carlson CV-23 with the 460 Ford Berkeley Jet. It is in really nice unrestored condition and the big block sounds amazing.
Pure happiness..
Less happy on the outside. On the inside…well, exploding with joy…BTW ,that is one cool ass boat. That top is PEEEUREPERFECTION!
Flying the colors
The coolest deck design award
A full house with Dave Bortner at the helm of Shooting Star. A Big Tahoe Winner.
Shooting Star WOW, those lines. And, let’s discuss the hand sign. Now I am always a bit confused on this one, and so I did some digging. For the record, the only hand sign I seem to see a alot, it just one finger. But… Okay, This sign as he is using it means I Love You. But if the thumb was folded over, not extended means I am having a good time. But be very careful where you put that thumb, because then it becomes the Devils Horn sign and that is usually known as the symbol for “rock on,” BUT,,,,, has a different meaning in Spain, Greece, and Italy — where it is called the “corna” and is considered a suggestive gesture made to a man to imply that his wife is cheating on him. It dates back more than 2,500 years and signifies a bull’s horns.
Following in the Wake of Shooting Star.. Or technically the trail of a Shooting Star is called a Train. So, there is that little tid bit of information.. Not that you needed more after that entire hand sign PHD you now have
OKay, lets all agree that she is waving, and that means hello, or look at us. Or goodbye. Oh god! Get me out of this information loop
Thankyou.
The Triple cockpit Hacker in the cruise shots is Shooting Star, a 1938 28′ Hacker with a Scripps V-12. One of two known to still exist. The other 1938 28′ is SeaFlow that you and Texx got to drive in 2015. This one belongs to Rob Lyons. Dave Bortner brought it to the show after doing some work to get it ready for the recent Tahoe Show where it took first place honors.
Shooting Star parked. Everyone and there hand gestures are off eating, drinking and laughing. I think?
Oh that old thing! GAAAAAAAAA
If this stuff does not get your motor running to go up to Gull Lake, YOU ARE DEAD! YUP, Dead. In fact you are so dead you have been cremated and are sitting on a mantel is your widows living room in Boca, while she has sold all your crap and is giving it all away to Juan the nice fellow she dances with on Saturday nights. He is a very sharp dresser, and DOES NOT SMELL LIKE VARNISH or old engine oil. DEAD! YOU ARE DEAD!
I swear, one day I am gonna have me one of these. Then again, the boatress will sell it off in a auction, and make 5 bucks on it, then give it to Juan at the dance club, on Tuesday nights. Juan gets around. Okay okay, this story has officially gone off the rails. Just stay tuned!
THANK YOU DANE and the Entire Gull Lake Gang!
Great photos, great story, interesting commentary! Thank you Dane and Matt!
Amazing Minnesota boats on a great cruise. That Hacker instrument cluster is gorgeous. I have never seen one like that before. Thanks Dane and Matt for sharing.
This one is on my bucket list.
Great stuff!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe that “I Love You” in ASL (American Sign Language) is supposed to have one more finger showing.
Because
The thumb and pinky out other fingers tucked in, twist hand slightly left and right means hang loose. Just relax and have a good time
❤️
Cool Boats, Great pictures. Thanks for sharing Dane.
I own that hand!
