Algonac This Weekend? Oh Come On. It’s Not A Trip, It’s A Pilgrimage.

, ,

Same Factory Tower of the Chris Craft Plant.

It’s that time of year again. man oh man time flies. And up in Michigan, the summers are even shorter, but very full days, and oh that water. Our good boater and loooongtime WoodyBoater Greg Lewendouski has invited us all to “Come On Up”

The water ‘s great

Out with Chris Smith and thats Texx in the back – This was I think about 15 years ago

For some of the newer folks, Algonac? Right near Detroit?  Algonc is our communities north star. Our Sun, Moon, and really cool place to just bask in the truth of the DNA home of power boating. Where it all began.

They will be there

To use a metaphor, like visiting the South of France to truly understand Impressionistic paintings, you get there, and Bam, you get it.  In Algonac, you get the entire scene baby. Why, how, what, all of it. Is it a vacation wonderland? Yes, and no. And thats it’s true charm.

Same water

Miss America lives on

But hands down, it’s the character of the people that really completes the image. I can’t explain it, but it is a very TRUE place. The open, welcoming, and passion is all there. All those emotions are baked into all our boats. Even if some were built in other areas of the country. The emotion started there.

Even the statues smile

Always ready for a ride

Where Art is Our Art.

It’s a special area, called by many, the Venice Of The US

Oh hell ya

So, bottom line, if you are part of this little lifestyle. You need, you have to visit Algonac. And it’s gonna be hot, and muggy in most of the country, and not in Algonac. SO GO! Okay I can’t predict the weather. Come on, go with the flow.

Our History! Come on Man

You too can be right here, there.

This years poster.

And of course CLICK here for the schedule of events. And if you are still on the fence. There is this reminder from the good old days on CBS Sunday Morning

Wow, what a great plug and Tiger Lily finally made the header of WoodyBoater. Now, if Matt could just learn to spell my name!
We will have about 65 boats in the water for the event this weekend with 15 30 ft. and over cruisers. The cruisers guys are gonna party!
Cruises happening on Friday and Sunday with the show (and boat rides) on Saturday. Beautiful dry weather all three days so join the Michigan gang at the Harbour Club Marina. It will be a good time!
    Thank you Matt!

Was there for the 100 year celebration of Chris Craft in 2022. It was a great time, if I get a chance I will come down this weekend. I urge all that can, to attend.

Off Topic- Troy, it was good to meet you at St. Michaels. Sorry I didn’t have more time to sit and BS. I was getting pressed to give boat rides, being Chief Judge was not enough I guess, LOL. We had some really good boats this year. 80 or so boats, 26 being judged. Quite a few 98+ point boats, in particular a Chris 103 runabout (Best of Show), a Gar Wood and a Hacker Gold Cup. Also, a spectacular restoration of a Hatteras yacht fish (Best Non-Wood). Hope to run into you again with more time to rag on Matt!

Unfortunately, won’t make it this year. But definitely want to get back there someday. Great show, with wonderfully welcoming people, on gorgeous aqua-blue water. From the 100 years of Chris Craft event.

Steve Lapkin turned me (and Owen) into a star that amazing morning during the 100th photoshoot. I think Steve was in Tigerlily taking those shots. Love you guys!! Many thanks for the header photo for WB this go around.
Owen is ready for the season waiting in the new shop for me to get my act together. Thanks again WB fans and Matt Smith & crew.

While at the Algonac Boat Show, don’t forget the free bus ride, to and from the ACHS Maritime Museum. All four rooms (known as Boathouses) have been updated with new content and displays. Four additional boats have been added to the collection in the last two years. Videos of the Chris Craft Plant, Gar Wood boats, and past antique boat parades play throughout the museum on the many monitors. The free bus starts at the bridge near the restaurant. So take a break from the hot sun by exploring the air-conditioned museum and getting your fix of historical knowledge.
