Classic Boats & Cars Gather For The 2015 Wooden Keels and Vintage Wheels Show At Indian Lake, Ohio

, ,

Viewing Mike and Bonnie Fogarty’s 1955 16′ Century Resorter named “Age in Wood” and son Brian Fogarty’s 1955 Wolverine Deluxe W- 14 with a Original 1955 Evinrude 25 named “Brian’s Weigh”.

TODAY WE TRAVEL TO INDIAN LAKE IN CENTRAL OHIO with fellow Woody Boater Brian Fogarty who sent us this great report from last weekend’s Wooden Keels and Vintage Wheels show. This event features a very diverse selection of antique & classic boats which is always great to see. Also on hand was a nice group of vintage & custom cars for this years show.

There were two kinds of wood at Russells Point Harbor on Indian Lake last weekend – the beautiful varnished wood used to build the classic boats, and the (less beautiful) natural wood that was used to build the docks. In order see and appreciate the beautiful varnished wood without being interrupted by the natural wood on the docks, Brian had to shoot many of the boats from their transoms. Nice work Brian! – Texx

Texx – What a great turnout for the July 17,18,19th 2015 annual Wooden Keels and Vintage Wheels Show at Russells Point Harbor on Indian Lake in central Ohio!!

We had 38 antique and classic boats along with a wonderful display of vintage cars. The show is one of the activities of the Indian Lake Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society. The harbor venue, site of the former amusement park known from 1925-1970 as Ohio’s Million Dollar Playground, sparkled after its recent upgrades.

Thanks for the report! It seems like dock builders everywhere don’t take into consideration the needs of a Woodyboater photographer and journalist. Maybe ACBS should publish guidelines on orienting docks to the morning sun, maximum post height etc.

“Lady Of The Lake” is the original name applied to Hull# 22163 at the factory. She was special ordered late in the 1940 model run and is the only 23 barrel back of any year with twin engines. The original purchaser from Grand Lake, Colorado ordered the boat with twin 121HP KBs to be the fastest boat on the lake. The complete documented story would make a tasty article all by itself. She was meticulously cared for her entire life and still retains 99% of her original wood with the exception of her bottom. She is truly fabulous and currently owned by a delightful Indian Lake Family.

Thanks for chiming in Greg. Great information. It would be fun to do a feature story on “Lady of the Lake” if possible. We love these kind of stories. – Texx

Looks like a great show and venue! The Marinacci (I believe) was a collaboration between Julius Marinacci and Curt Erickson and (I believe) was the last boat that Julius built. He was the mastermind behind the Fairliner Torpedo and other runabouts and boats built by Fairliner in Tacoma, WA. in the 40’s and 50’s. The boat is featured on pgs 283-285 in Real Runabouts V.
