From Clayton To Tahoe, It’s Big Boat Show Season In Merica!
From this weeks big Clayton show celebrating 50 years of boat showness to the big Tahoe show on August 8th and 9th. Antique and Classic boat owners are getting ready to show there top boats both East and West. The big show in Clayton this Friday through Sunday is promising to be one of the best one in years, and to top it off you can bask in all the goodness of the Thousand Islands.

On Saturday there is a huge, and I mean huge classic boat auction. I have seen some insane deals happen here.
If you don’t have a room yet, check hotels in Alex Bay and surrounding areas. Clayton is not known for its 4 star hotels. But the Wesley Hotel is always a cool vintage option by the way, requires a car though. Regardless of where you stay, you will be able to see “Pardon Me” the largest runabout made, back in the water after a multi year restoration. You can find out more here at the Antique Boat Museums website. By the way, the museum is worth the trip alone if you have never been. Here is the show website.
Now if you can’t make that show cause you live out west. Well.. this years big concourse de elegance is at a new/old location and featuring barrel backs. just think, you can go to one place, one stunning place and see the worlds finest barrel backs. momma mia that a hole lotta barrel backness! You can find out more by just clicking HERE.

For those of you that like to take pictures, The light on Lake Tahoe is worldly good. Combine a nice boat, in a nice setting with nice light. Bam you are a fancy pants photographer.
Here is a snazzy video all done to get you all jazzed, or classical piano you into going. I will add, this is a must go to show if you want to see the finest boats on the planet. They take judging standards very seriously there and it shows.
The shows setting this year is at historic Obexer’s Boat Company, home of the first wooden boat dealership on Lake Tahoe which is also a 4 minute walk to the Tahoe Maritime Museum A Must visit as well.. . So you can get that history fix if you want. Heck Obexers is a living museum since its one of the original marinas on the lake.
So, mow the lawn during the week, and get out there! Or over there! Or up there! Down there to all out Canadian readers. Leave your big red floats at home please!
If you are not East or West, but in th middle, there is a great show this week end in Port Sanilac on Lake Huron in Michigan. It is a fun show sanctioned by the Michigan Chapter, ACBS. The nice people of Port Sanilac are combining it with a Blues Festival at the marina, and will also have vintage motor cycles and Tin Can Tourists (vintage travel trailers) on display. So join us in the middle for a great time on Friday and Saturday!
OR, drive on up an hour or two from this show, and catch the Water Wonderlands chapter boat show “Boats on the Boardwalk” up in Traverse City, Michigan this Saturday..
Michigan’s got you covered this weekend, or cut the grass during the week!!!
WOW! I have never seen Pardon Me before this.
I wish I had known she was in Brooklin ME. I would have stopped in for a visit. My brother was living right around the corner in East Blue Hill.
Great video of Tahoe also.
One look at how much sanding staining sanding varnishing sanding varnishing sanding varnishing sanding… That monster needs made me really appreciate the smaller boats out there.
She is really cool and the engine is a beast. Huge jugs!
Saturday is also the Boats On The Boardwalk show in Traverse City Michigan, followed next Saturday by the iconic Hessel show in the U.P.
And if you are in the upper middle…the Chetek Fly-In and Classic Boat show is Sunday Aug. 10th at the Chetek Airport.
You read about the show here on Woody Boater last summer. Fun show…cool planes and boats. Together!
Oops…of course, Chetek is in Wisconsin!
Clayton has a brand new hotel that just opened at the beginning of July – be sure to check it out! They were offering a discounted room rate for those attending the Boat Show or Regatta – call and ask if that is still available.

Don’t forget the Commander Rondezvous in Huron Ohio this Sat. 8/2.
Just hire someone to mow the lawn for the remainder of the Summer.
The hotel situation in Clayton, NY, dramatically improved this year with the opening of the Clayton Harbor Hotel. There are now 105 new guest rooms in Clayton. I don’t know how many stars the hotel may be rated, but it looks pretty nice to me!
I thought those were condos there were so nice. Is it finished? 2 weeks ago they were doing finish landscaping and still had construction fence at entrance.
“they” not “there”
I didn’t know it was open yet. Looks great!
Or, you could forgetabout lawn mowing and call in the good people of Monsanto. They’ll Round-Up the whole thing, killing nearly everything natural that could possibly grow there. Then, they’ll happily sell you some Round-Up-impervious GMO soybeans to plant (and more Round-up as needed). You can sell your crop to fast food or packaged food companies. This will help pay for your classic boat bills. It’s kinda like growing your own expense account. What a great country.
Hope to see some of you in Clayton. Heading up there early Friday.
