Escape The East Coast Hurricane – Go Classic Boating In Sunny San Diego!
THIS WEEKEND, WHILE MANY EAST COAST BOATERS ARE BATTENING DOWN THE HATCHES the nice folks from the SoCal Chapter ACBS will be basking in the sunshine on the Pacific Ocean.
From AccuWeather.com – Flooding from Hurricane Joaquin will impact areas from South Carolina to Massachusetts even though the hurricane is unlikely to make landfall in the United States.
People should not let their guard down due to a shifting track of the hurricane as the risk to lives and property in this complex situation remains high.
A copious amount of moisture will unload very heavy rainfall along parts of the Atlantic Seaboard and the Appalachians into early next week. Strong winds, coastal flooding and beach erosion will occur and could be very damaging even in the absence of a landfall. – AccuWeather.com
From east coast fellow Woody Boater David Konick in Delaware, who by the way is not easily intimidated by the Atlantic Ocean…
So this is a reminder courtesy of Woody Boater that it’s not too late to call up your favorite “discount airline” and book a last minute flight on the “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” to San Diego for some classic Boating SoCal style. – Texx
Southern California ACBS Chapter Fall Gathering
San Diego Yacht Club – October 2-4
Once again the SoCal Chapter of ACBS proves who has the biggest cajones! Who else but these daredevils of the deep blue sea would not only put their precious wooden boats in saltwater, but use a crane to do it!
But if you use enough Saltaway and double check your lifting rings it’s definitely worth it! Where else can you zoom by real Navy aircraft carriers, high speed SEAL delivery boats, submarines, classic tall ships, the world famous Hotel Del Coronado, and the beautiful San Diego skyline all in a couple of hours!
Come join this fool hardy group if you’re in the San Diego area October 2-4. They’ll be gathering at the elegant San Diego Yacht Club drinkin’ Salty Dogs! – Ken Slaght, SoCal Chapter ACBS.
From the Official SoCal Chapter Media Release
Please join us for our 13th annual Fall Gathering of Classic Boats in San Diego – October 2-4, 2015.
The event will be held at the San Diego Yacht Club. The front guest dock will be reserved for our boats (and we have rooms reserved at the Club for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings).
Additionally, the Southern California ACBS Chapter will be holding it’s fall board meeting on Saturday at the Yacht Club.
San Diego October weather is perfect for small boats on the bay, especially in the morning and late afternoons and we plan to hold group cruises on Saturday and Sunday.
For those who prefer to display their boat on a trailer, provisions can be made to position trailered boats in front of the Club that weekend. We have made arrangements with the SDYC to store your trailers and to provide a wash-down area after you haul them out.
You can launch your boat from the Shelter Island boat ramp (map enclosed) or from the SDYC crane (lifting capacity 6000 lbs). We will provide assistance at the SDYC crane from 12 pm till 4 pm Friday.
For accommodations, we have a block of 10 rooms set aside at the Bay Club Hotel on Shelter Island. Please call their Reservations Department direct @ 800-672-0800.

Sounds like another great event in Southern California, and a perfect way to escape Hurricane Joaquin.
Lets all hope that our fellow Woody Boater friends from the east coast are not effected by the big storm this week.
I’d go but my boat won’t fit in the overhead compartment…Besides it is looking like it will be a nice weekend here in Florida
I sure would like to see a few more pictures of that Arabian.
Looks like the East Coast is going to get spared so don’t have to put Panther away early. Now I don’t have to travel for my woody fix.
Did Panther make the annual summer trip to Tennessee this year Rick?
Yes, used her down on Tellico Lake. After all the salt use she gets I love using her in sweetwater. Just really hate having to trailer on the Cross Bronx Expressway watching the trailer going airborne from the potholes. Also brought Panther down to the St. Michaels MD show. I really should write that up, lots of fun there.
I just happen to be in San Diego (from Ohio) for a few days of company meetings. Also happen to have some open time this afternoon. What do I see this morning while getting my WoodyBoater fix but this nice little ditty about a woody boat gathering just a mile down the road. Just got back from the San Diego Yacht Club looking at some really nice boats and talking to some even nicer people. They tell me that tomorrow they will be boating around the bay and will cover some serious liquid real estate. Of course I told everyone I heard about their event on WoodyBoater. Sure hope someone from their club posts some photos and coverage.
Thanks for the update Greg, glad you were able to stop by. Thanks for mentioning that you saw the story on Woody Boater. Hopefully there will be s shooter out on the Pacific Ocean tomorrow and send us some shots. Enjoy SoCal! – Texx
By the way, those SoCal Chapter guys are as good as it gets. Always having fun.
