Let’s Go To Essex Connecticut For A Classic Boat Show! Better Yet, Stay Here And See It Here. Over 30 Photos.
Today we all go to the Essex CT ACBS gathering. Just think, you can just sit there with your cup of whatever and travel to Essex and walk through a gathering without going to all the trouble of driving and finding a hotel. All thanks to fellow Woody Boater Capt Bob. Take it away Bob, Thanks Matt, first, The Connecticut River Museum is a U.S. educational and cultural institution based at Steamboat Dock in Essex, Connecticut that focuses on the marine environment and maritime heritage of the Connecticut River Valley. And I am including a few shots of my “office” the Herreshoff launch ( Header today ) that I pilot for the yacht club (and they pay me to do it) notice that it doesn’t have a wheel it is stick steer. Thanks Capt Bob, Now Capt Bob did not include captions but he did send a crap load of photos so thanks to Capt Bob, you get to kill about 1/2 hour. Woohooo!
Is the smokestack on the launch purely decorative? In the pictures it seems oddly positioned over nothing.
I like the Lyman, guessing its a 23 runabout. I was excited to see it twice.
Anyone going to the wine country boat show in Hammondsport this weekend? I am going to try and go and take some pictures if little Tobler is up to it. I’ll be the guy in a Woodyboater shirt trying to take pictures while the bear cub is yanking on the leash.
Oh, and I promise to include captions with any photos I send in.
Thanks Cpt. Bob!
Looks like a nice gathering and a wide range of boats.
I did not know you were in CT. My son works in Westbrook.
“Take a trip and never leave the farm.”
Thanks Cap’n Bob. Nice mix of boats at your show. The launch is beautiful. Herreshoff was a remarkable man.
m-fine,
Leaving for Hammondsport in an hour. Hope to see you there. Need to defend my “fastest” outboard award Sunday. Look for my Lyman with a unique 30 hp motor.
Skiffman
I’ll try to wear one of my woody boater shirts, and I will have this thing on a leash…
Try again…
Hahaha!! I totally thought you were talking about a small child!
My youngest human child is 8 and Child Protective Services says I can’t use the choke chain and leash on him anymore.
Tobler will be 9 weeks old on Saturday. He doesn’t like wearing his collar and he doesn’t get the concept of a leash yet, so the boat show may be a bit of an adventure, but I need to get him out and learning now while he is a manageable 18 lbs because he could be 100 lbs heavier by the 2015 show and then it is too late.
So, please forgive any blurry or poorly framed photos or if I don’t make it to your boat to take pictures or say hello.
Hammondsport is a great show…I won a bottle of nice wine there once. Joe Flemming gave me a ride all over the lake in the Marjorie Merriweather Post boat he owns and I saw friend Curt Brayer win a race…Hope Curt is still racing…
Thanks for taking the time Cap’n Bob.
That’s my old 63 Grady White, Its owned by Rich Rosselli, original tower of power still on it!
MFINE Don Spring a good friend of mine will be there for four days with the GW in today’s boat show pics, FOCUS, Go up to him and introduce yourself, and ask him if he would be interested in working on a Shepherd, and watch him go off.:):) Then after he calms down tell him Phil Jones sent you to get a ride on the lake. We just spent eleven days shoe-horning that big block 354 Hemi dual quad into my Shepherd. He said he is retiring after that ordeal. I’m sure he will hook you up, he’s a super nice guy.
Thanks for the tip. I will be sure to locate FOCUS and ask for help replacing the engines in my Shepherds (why own just one right?).
I don’t know that I will be bugging anyone for rides since I will have the pup with me and it is my home lake. I’m planning on going by boat on Sunday morning to get some photos of the race, but I will probably go by car Saturday because I doubt I’ll find dock space to park. I should have registered for a non-judged boat just to insure a slip.
Bet you would win your category with “Lil Squirt”!
You don’t have to get to many points when you are the only one.
