Late Live-ish From The Adirondack Chapter Poker Run By Kent O. Smith Jr.

Thanks Matt, The Adirondack Chapter held it’s first Poker Run on Great Sacandaga Lake on July 19th. The Run was organized by chapter members Adam and Jessica Retersdorf and sponsored by their business Reetsboatworks.com located near the lake in Mayfield, NY.

Boats gathered and launched at 10 AM. First stop was close by at Adam’s parents lakehouse where mimosa’s were served from the dock. Adam graciously offered the use of his 36’ Donzi center console as the official photo boat for the event. Photographer Kent Smith was onboard as well as lake local Anders Junger who brought a quadcopter drone to capture overhead stills and video. Anders runs From Above Media and kindly donated the shots to the chapter.

Other stops on the lake included the Lakeside Tavern, Sport Island Pub, I-Go-Inn and finally Lanzi’s on the lake where we gathered for lunch and to tally the results.

Roger & Maria Johnson on the 1934 Chris Craft “Recovery” had the best hand and won a gift certificate to the I-Go-Inn. A great time was had by all – even the kids – despite the lack of enthusiasm looks. HA

“Golden Fury” is a racer converted from a 1957 Chris Craft Holiday and powered by a Chrysler 440.

OK Matt, the gauntlet has been thrown down. When are you getting your drone? That is really a cool way to capture an event.
That is one heck of a group of boats. The poor Contnental family boat must have felt like a snail amongst all those racers!
P.s Please remind me to wear a hard hat at any show where Matt S. shows up with a drone!

Well, no more getting up early for photo shoots…Just program the drone to get up early and start shooting.

I have looked into the drone thing.. The issue is over water if they drop.. And they do.. Its gone. Poof! 1700 of wet drone that looks like a dry drone but doesnt work
The newer models just shake it off.
Matt — out west we have a whole lot of planes that land on water, called seaplanes.
You just put floats on your drone. And you better start constructing yours soon, cuz’ I will be expecting lots of varnished mahogany and chrome on the ‘hull’!!!!!!

I know the drone pics are getting all the “gee wiz,” but it’s the photos of the kids that are truly great. Especially this header shot. That’s what it’s all about.
So much technology is cool, but at the end of the day, it lacks soul.
The drone is merely a tool just like a handheld camera. It is what you do with it that counts. You can still capture pictures and videos of kids having fun on the water, just from new angles.
At any rate, I think I am now prepared for whenever Matt changes his mind. Hard hat? Check! Vodka? Check!

Wholly agree with you Alex. Kent is a master at capturing folks having fun on, in, or even next to wooden boats.
Although not quite as pristine as Kents’ header shot I’m reminded of one of my own favorite photos

Amazing photos! Love to see kids having fun messing about in old boats, that’s how I grew up!!
BUT, I want more information about “Golden Fury”!! My friends and I have talked for years about doing a similar conversion with a Chris Craft “Rocket” to make a “poor man’s racing runabout”…

It was so great seeing these pictures of the Adirondack Chapter’s show on The Great Sacandaga Lake shot by Kent O. Smith! Great pics JR! It was fun seeing familiar boats and old friends. A fabulous pic of Katerina Hoffman behind the wheel of T-14! She has grown so much since I saw her last! As one of the early members (early ’70’s) of the Adirondack Chapter of ACBS it’s such a pleasure seeing the Chapter growing and members still having fun with their “woodies” (and now others)! My best to all of you!
