Live-ish Friday From Lake Tahoe!
We have a late Live-ish update in pictures from the Lake Tahoe Concours today courtesy (once again) of photographer Steve Natale. Although the forecast for Friday at Lake Tahoe was for unseasonably cooler temperatures, clouds and rain, most of the weather held off until late in the afternoon – then most of the rain and thunder just passed by north of Homewood.
This gave Steve the opportunity to get out on the docks at Obexer’s Marina to snap some great photos of the show, now open to the public. I arrived after lunch to find a packed house with lots of enthusiastic spectators and participants. Obexer’s is a fun place to shoot static boat show photos due to the abundance of elevated docks that surround the facility. The mostly uninterrupted site lines between the docks let you get up close and personal with the show boats, as you will see from Steve’s shots today. More on that tomorrow. – Texx

The legendary Riva marque was also represented at Tahoe this year with a number of stunning boats on hand, made in Italy.

As always, the legendary Chris-Craft marque is well represented at Tahoe, boats from alomost every era on hand at the Obexer’s Marina docks.

Renowned Artist (and fellow Woody Boater) Roy E. Dryer III was on hand at Tahoe as he is every year with his legendary artwork. This year Roy’s Lake Tahoe Concours poster design celebrates the Vintage V-12 Marque Class.

Steve captures a great shot of the 650 HP V-12 Rolls Royce Meteor engine lurking under the engine hatches of “HORNET II” the amazing 1930 29’ 6” Gar Wood Custom Stepped Hydroplane presented by Ned Spieker, of Menlo Park, California. We have a few more shots of “Hornet II” in the can for tomorrow’s story. – Texx

Steve also captures this great photo of the perfectly prepared 325 HP V-12 Lycoming UF engine in “MOUNTAIN LYON” the 1932 28’ Sea Lyon Runabout owned by Lee & Sandy Chase, Los Gatos, California. This engine runs as good as it looks too – Texx

In the late afternoon some weather approached, but for the most part passed to the north of Homewood thank goodness.

With all the amazing mahogany boats and vintage V-12 engines everywhere you look – it makes a man stop and appreciate the moment… – Texx
The Awards Ceremony and traditional Friday BBQ is under way right now, and we hope to have the results of the awards on Sunday from the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance. Stay tuned to Woody Boater.
Special thanks again to Steve Natale for his photo contributions today.

Speaking of Riva’s and V12’s where is Perlita Too.
I would think this would be the perfect show for her to appear.
