Live-ish Friday From The 36th Annual ACBS Meeting & International Boat Show

,

A quick Live-ish Report from the beautiful Abbey Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. I have to say this is a wonderful venue for the ACBS International Boat Show, and the host Blackhawk & Glacier Lakes ACBS Chapters have everything running smoothly as expected.

However today we have good news and bad news to report. The Good News – We have some cool images of the event to share with our viewers today… The Bad News – It’s currently 3:10AM on Saturday morning and I have to be standing at the dock at 6:00AM with fellow Woody Boater Chad Durren for an early morning boat ride / photo shoot… So no time for much text today – Sorry folks, I’ll include twice as much text tomorrow to make up foir it. Enjoy the images! (Don’t forget you can click on the image to enlarge it, then click the back arrow to return to the Woody Boater story)

On Friday over 120 boats were judged by a team of ACBS Judges. Here’s the Judging Team of Brian Robinson (standing on the dock) and Mike Mayer (in the boat) having a close look at the elegant “Lady El”.

Mike moves from the rear cockpit to the front cockpit… What do you suppose he is looking for…

Is what Mike is looking for under the forward deck or dash… Or is he just taking a mid-day break…

Then some final comments from the owner for Brian…

There is a wide range of antique & classic boats this year in Lake Geneva.

We spotted this cool vintage raceboat hauler…

And a very cool, vintage Evinrude outboard presented in it’s original shipping crate…

Inside the vintage shipping crate… An awesome piece.

Fellow Woody Boater and good guy Steve Stevenson was on hand with a huge inventory of boat parts, original brochures, and even a cool outboard aluminum boat that he just sold. Every time I see our friend Steve, he has some kind words for Woody Boater and some rare, unusual boating stuff for sale. It’s like a traveling museum!

Then we went for a fun boat ride with Jeff Knudson aboard “Tin Can” his very cool, very rare, perfectly restored 1940’s aluminum sedan.

And we were joined by two very special fellow Woody Boaters, Jacob & Kristen Glick from historic Holland, Michigan – The proud owners of “Norm” their preserved 1956 Chris-Craft Sportsman. It was great to meet them for the first time in Lake Geneva this year.

We officially deputized Jacob in the middle of Lake Geneva as our newest Woody Boater – Holland, Michigan roving reporter! I think his lovely wife Kristen thought we were nuts, but she just politely smiled during the ceremoney.

We are still hoping to learn more about the history of “Tin Can”, you can click here to see the original Woody Boater story from March 2011 we did on this rare aluminum 1940’s boat, and if you have any comments please let us know.

“Norm” relaxing in his private slip at Lake Geneva…

Special thanks to Jeff Knudsen for the great boat ride and his kind hospitality.

Stay tuned for more Live-ish updates from the 2011 ACBS International Boat Show and Mecum Auction on Sunday.

jimmuh – “Old Vibrations” is a 1951 Hacker Boat Company 26′ Utility which is owned by Tom Flood from Cedarville, MI.

A very, very cool boat… and Tom is a great guy too, with a ton of knowledge about wooden boat restoration.

RiverRat…if you’re referring to the boat at the top of the page under the headline, that boat is a 2011 Morin 30″. It is a custom built one of a kind with a V-12 BPM (6 downdraft Webber carbs).
