Live-ish From The 28th Annual Lake Arrowhead Antique & Classic Wooden Boat Show
The wooden boats were arriving all day Friday in preparation for the 28th Annual 2012 Lake Arrowhead Antique & Classic Boat Show hosted by the Southern California Chapter ACBS. And the scent of varnish is in the air here in the San Bernardino mountains.
And even when tied up to a dock, it’s always great to have the opportunity to see one of those specatcular Gar Wood runabouts…
Or a classic Chris-Craft Super-Sport rumbling up to the dock for the big show.
“Empress” – A rare Gar Wood Streamliner looking perfect as always, thanks to Tim & Brian Robinson from Robinson Restoration, one of SoCal’s top restoration shops.
As the participants continue to set up their classic boats for the official start to the show on Saturday, interested spectators and fellow boaters gather together to share some stories… That’s what makes the hobby so special.
And as the main docks continue to fill up with over 40 antique & classic boats this year…
This years Guest Speaker (and chief photographer) Matt Smith arrives and immediately begins looking for that unique iPhone shot from the dock… I overheard a little kid say “Mommy, whats that man doing on the dock?”
The entrance to the wonderful Lake Arrowhead Resort & Spa lobby was a static on-land boat show as everyone was checking in for the weekend, before they put the boats in the drink.
This event also includes a number of vintage Woodie Cars which will be displayed along the Lake Arrowhead Village promenade on Saturday…
Brian gave us a tour of Lake Arrowhead on Friday, viewing the cabins from the lake always provides a different perspective. The lake is a popular destination for folks from the Los Angeles / SoCal area, many who head up to their cabins during the summer months.
Our host Dave Anderson and his crew aboard “Wicked Wahine” heading over to the Friday evening cocktail party…
Stay tuned for more Live-ish updates from Lake Arrowhead as the show gets under way later today.

What a beautiful place and how good do the boats look ! It’s a wet wet wet weekend “down under” so your story and the great photos are bringing a big smile to our faces. Looking forward to seeing more!Cheers!!
Looks like a great show and venue. Those are some ” cabins” on the lake! Keep the pics coming.
Dear God, is Matt showing butt crack in that photo?
Our leader? The Master of the WoodyBoater Universe?
Well if he’s Master Of The Universe I guess that’s the moon.
It appears to be waxing, not waning
OUCH! I hear waxing hurts.
Wonder if it’s a Brazilian Wax? ( I’ve got way too much free time at work today.)
if those are cabins then we live in the 3rd outhouse on the left at our little lake. looks like a great woodyboater weekend.
I was fixing the plumbing on that boat… thankyou very much!
I’m wondering what Brian Robinson is going to be watching tonight, the LA Kings or the WB Kings ? If anybody sees him, tell him not to worry that there’s a game on Monday and Wednesday.
Yes, I certainly hope to be watching Wednesday!
Will there be some sort of W/B special article on proper dock plank spacing based on the above photos taken by Matt? Can’t wait for that feature. yawn.
