Mt Dora or Bust! – T.G.I.F.
T.G.I.F – Thank God It Floats. On Friday afternoon, the all original 1957 Lake n’ Sea 15′ was reunited with a lake after being in covered storage for over 38 years, since 1972!
The boat was pulled out of storage on Monday night in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and hauled down to Mt Dora, Florida to attend the Sunnyland ACBS Antique Boat Festival. We had 2 days to prepare the boat for the show, which included installing the beautifully restored 1957 Mercury Mark 55 from Vintage Boatworks in California, install a new period correct wiring harness, NOS Mercury controls, NOS control linkage and throttle cables. Installed a new steering cable for safety and completed a major clean up on the boat.
On Friday afternoon, Jim West from Westcoast Classic Boat Restoration, who flew out from Portland, Oregon to Florida to help me with the boat, drove her 20 minutes across Lake Dora to the show docks in Tavares where the Sunnyland boat show is being held.
I must say that I am pleasently surprised by the amount of attention the little runabout is getting at the boat show, and how many people appreciate the fact that it’s an original condition boat from 1957.
The optional Bimini top still fits like a glove. Thanks to everyone for following the “Mt Dora or Bust” story on WoodyBoater and all the nice, encouraging comments we have recieved.
Now on to the boat show to see all the beautiful boats and prepare some more stories on antique boats and the people that own them, to share with everyone on WoodyBoater.com
