Official Woody Boater Boat Chosen! Come Meet Her On Greenwood Lake!
Lyman? Sea Skiff? Only the Babe knows.. And he ain’t talk’n. We have made a final choice on the next official Woody Boater Boat. The boat has been bought, and is currently being lettered. And will be delivered to us this week. The choice was extremely difficult until we found the boat. Then it was easy. We looked all over the country and I mean all over the country. Wisconson, Michigan, Georga, Ohio, California, Washington State, Minnesota, New York, Virginia, Maryland, Texas, Maine, Vermont, back to Wisconson, Michigan Three times, Chicago…. Sandusky several times, spent to much money having boats looked at. But in the end one boat stood out. It ain’t perfect that’s for sure. It’s actually only 3 years old… But it screams Woody Boater. Curious as to what boat won the coveted official Woody Boater boat? Sorry, the only way you will find out is in person at the Greenwood Lake Show this Weekend. That’s right. This is a cheap tease to get you to go to a show. A fun show that needs support. Greenwood lake is not only full of sparkling Fresh lake Water, it’s also loaded with history. Yup. The babe summered there.. As did many other celebs and regular folks. The show there started as a fun get together. Meetings at different folks boat houses.. Over the years it grew to an official event. Its not a large show.. And it’s very low key.. This year we are going to bring the spotlight of Woody Boater on this un sespecting town.. People will be coming from as far away as… well. the next Lake over if we are lucky.. So, once again, if you are within a nice drive to New York.. Come on by and take a ride on the new boat. You can find out more just click here.. Woohooo.
Nice tease Matt. I wonder what the boat could be. Lol. See you this weekend.
You will have to find out this weekend with the rest of the world. I will not be publishing it til Monday by the way. So if you want to be one of the first, you need to be there.
Only 3 years old, at your price point and wood? Maybe a Glen-L? LOL
About damn time! Oh i mean congrats on your purchase!
As for what it could be, the price plus age plus the ride invitation implying that it floats certainly narrows the field down. Certainly not a Lyman, or a Garwood. Seems unlikely a Hacker or a new glass Chris Craft would be affordable on a low 5 figure budget. Hmmm might be another one of those 11 inch crab skiffs. Glen-l prodject does sound lime the best guess if it is indeed 3 years old and wood.
Yes, it floats. I was told by the owner though that it did take on some water when first put in the water 3 years ago.
It’s a Phantom named Phantom he found a Phanton Marina in Phantomville, somewhere in Lower Slobovia.
I’m OK with a good teaser, Matt, but it’s only Tuesday for Gods sake. What are we gonna do for the rest of the week?
I have no idea! Its a day by day thing..
Canadian whiskey barrels, lashed into a pontoon boat with a ’59 35 hp merc 2-stroke and a patio umbrella to shade the lawn, I mean, deck chairs. Congrats to you and Suzie Matt. She is probably more relieved than you! Can’t be too much fun living with a boatless Woodyboater. Ha.
Being boatless is no fun for the boatress. Very stressfull putting up with my.. ” hey look at this boat.. it has original yada yada..”
My wife the shrink says your just like me OCB-Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, chewing thru boats till you find the right one , then move on to the next life threatning issue, petit or eppiphanines. Hows my spelling?
It looks like I will have to miss the world famous Greenwood show this year although I might make a brief appearance at the even more famouse Wine Country Classic Boat show in Hammondsport NY. My firend Joe Martell, former controversial boat author and current robot chicken, will be visiting so that rules out the longer road trip to see the new woodyboat.
You can visit Beautiful Meredith NH July 29-30 . Ill be there with my 63 Carver that I bought in Chataqua Lake ny? last fall.
Keep plugging that show. I am scared of Thayer country..
I dont think they would tar and feather you if you showed up.
Especially with a “baggadonuts”, LOL.
We’ll be there with our U-22.
Can’t make that one either! I am manning the smoker and cooking up a bunch of beef briskets and turkeys on the 29th and then smoking ribs and grilling Cornell chickens on the 30th for a large familly event.
Mike M, come on down to Smith Mtn. Lake, Va. Dare Marinia, Wed. Thur. and Fri. at 9am we’ll find ya something to do to take your mind off the surprise.:):):) it’s only gon’a be 99 today 98 Wed and 97 Thur. with plenty of humidity. You know it’s hot when you look aroud at a marinia and don’t see empty beer cans , all you see is empty gatoraide bottles.:):)
Thanks Phil. When we lived in Raleigh, NC we used to love the SML show. Come to think of it, my wife seems to “love” any show that is held at a resort…..hmmmmm. I like shows where the fishermans motel down the street has a bottle opener screwed to the wall in the bathroom…
Do I see a guessing contest in this weeks future???
Monday all will be reveiled on Woody Boater.. If you come to the show.. You can bask in all its glory
Lets start a collection for the first show attendee who spills the beans in a comment on Friday or Saturdays story. I am in for $20.
I’ll take that twenty. Three year old 1960 24′ Chris Craft Sportsman.
Ya think you are so smart!
That’s what I would put my money on!
Ah the mysteries of Woodyboater spelling………revealed….reveiled..sorta like when my dad was courting my mom and meant to call her priceless and called her worthless. Matt, does the new ride have a plastic bucket???
I stopped after the first response. Sounds like a barn find to me. I love the eighteen foot Lyman outboard. I have searched as much as you and have found the dream boat but the owner would not sell. A hull that had never been in the water, brand new. May be that is the boat you found. Or somehing like it. Congraulations. Maybe I will finally see you on saturday. Have you been in Jersy all week??
I was in Jersey only for two days. lake Mohawk and lake Hopatcong are two great areas for these boats. The people love them there.. Greenwood lake was on the list since spring. So I will be going up twice. And very happy about it. Great people who like to have fun.. Come on by and say hi.
Why aren’t they on the cabs calendar?! And the one weekend I’m out of town! I would have hauled my skiff to the show for sure too…. I expect lots of pics. Ones big enough for screensavers! I’ll quit yelling now.
It would have been fun to catch up. Sorry you are giin to miss the fun
Congrats on the new 21 foot Chris Craft Cobra as it is one rare ride! steve
If it has a steering wheel with lots of sporty holes in it, might I suggest duct taping the littlest ones.
Then again, since the Cap’n is also the curious sort, he might want to duct tape ’em all, so he is not led into temptation.
1: “[They] cut a hole in a [wheel],”
2: “Put your [finger] in that [wheel],”
3: “Make [them cut] open the [wheel]… and that’s the way you do it.”
OK,
I’ll bite;
Question 20:
Is this 3-yr-old, your price-point, boat longer than, say…, 12-feet?
Ya could say I kinda wondered out of my budget. But the cheapest boat you will by sometimes is the most expensive one. For site is a good thing. Sometimes
OK,
Question 19:
Does it have an engine?
Yes
My guess Matt is a Grand Craft, but whatever it is enjoy her & safe boating !!!!!!!!!!

Matt,
I hope it’s a Morin Craft. They were built on Greenwood Lake at the Greenwood Lake Launch Works. I have my grandfather’s 19’6” split cockpit runabout that was built there in 1938. She’s powered by a Gray 6-160 and was raced on Greenwood Lake in 1938 and 1939.
PS
Babe Ruth also owned a Morin Craft sometime in the late 1940’s.
Here is a link to an article I wrote for the ACBS Rudder magazine a few years ago about our Morin Craft.

Sorry, let’s try that link again.

Chip,
Just read your story about your Morin Craft and I nearly hard tears in my eyes! Hope you’ve still got her and are still enjoying her. Thanks for saving her and for sharing your story with us!
