Splash Mob On Fleets Bay Virginia

,

They had a Beachy time!

Over the past couple weeks, we have been focused on some monster shows, Clayton and Tahoe are  whoppers for sure. But as we talked about yesterday, smaller shows like Harvy’s Lake can be small but very rich in boats, and then there is what could be the smallest show of the year. But one of the more fun. This past weekend the Splash Mob Eric Zelman tried to do the weekend of the rain was on! Sadly we couldn’t make it. But it didn’t stop others in the area from having some timeless Chesapeake Bay fun. Eight boats in total. These photos are timeless and look just like the old Whirlwind photos back in the day.

Century Resorter – Kevin Rogers

Whirlwind – Bethany holding the boat while John anchors

Whirlwinds!

Whirlwind – Art Gilbert – picture driving boat across fleets with his wife.

Hacker-Craft – Will Garvey – picture of boat anchored off beach AND getting towed back! (Loose ground) SEE! It’s a real boat show. Someone got towed home.

Wagemaker – Eric Zelman – picture crossing Fleets Bay with Cliff’s girlfriend Rita taking picture

Carolina Skiff – Jill drove the canteen boat with 12 lbs of BBQ  (shredding with wolverine claws), backed beans, slaw, chips,
beverages, table, chairs etc.

Arrived and set up picnic, some took a stroll on the beach around towards Windmill Point, the guys talked shop. Clif got several swims in. Packed up and headed out then the call came that Will’s Hacker would not start. One of our local neighbors towed Will to our dock using his metal skiff. Hung out and enjoyed some Margaritas at our place while John and Will worked on the Hacker. No luck. Sunday, Will pulled the battery and had it checked, all good, he put it back in and it started! Turned out to be a loose ground.

Definitely need to do this again-

Splash Mobs are the future – Whirlwind – Jack Berry  talking to John in front of boat. John previously owned this Whirlwind

Look, smiles, fun and beachtime

KAVALK Classic 19 “Heart Of My Heart” – Gary Van Tassel – This boat is perfect, fun and fast!

These are the best kind of “shows”. We call them Rendezvous, but I like the Splash Mob idea.

I believe there is a rendezvous planned for this Sunday morning on Cobbossee. Unfortunately Sandi and I already had plans to be in Casco Bay for the weekend so I will not be reporting.

    Have Fun our there!

Sorry I missed it! I hope all the local WB’ers are at the Reedville show coming up in September so I can connect. I need to get at least ONE of my four Whirlwinds out of my Boat Barn in Falmouth Va!

Definitely looks like fun – and you are right on with the word “timeless” to describe these gatherings. Love the pictures, the boats, and the camaraderie evident! Great times for all –

I am starting to think that we should toss our inboards and start putting outboards on our boats. Reliable, fuel efficient, quiet and reliable…. did I mention reliable.

Great Time! We are already thinking about the next “rendezvous” / “splash party”. If local to the Bay, stop by the Reedville Show Sept 8 at the Reedville Fisherman’s museum and get on our email list. Back in the barn on Sunday, priming the bottom of the ’62 Lake n Sea!

BIGGGGG Thanks to Eric for making it all happen. The pulled pork ranked with some of the best I have ever had. Kudos!

After further socializing and margaritas at the Zelman’s house we had a beautiful flat water run back to Deltaville in HEART OF MY HEART cruising at 40+. Got her on the trailer and re-launched in Seaford, Va and in the boat house just as the skies opened up and deluged on us!

    Great Day!!!
