The Algonac Show Is Gonna Be A Whooper…. With Cheese, And A Super Sized Drink!
The big 100 year Birthday celebration of Chris Craft in Algonac is getting closer and some 70 boats are expected to show up. The big cruisers are gobbling up dock space, which is very cool, since we dont get to drool over Cruisers often. And Miss Algonac, Godfather and Owen are going to be there. MISS ALGONAC! OH HELL TO THE YA! All three of those boats in one place is a very very special moment.
There is also going to be a special tent of Chris Craft history, at the location that is the ultimate tent of Chris Craft history. Boat rides out the wazoo, and the entire Algonac area is dripping with our passions history. You really get the entire vibe of how this all became a marine empire!
2022 Michigan Chapter Antique & Classic Boat Show
The 100th Anniversary Celebration of Chris Craft
“Where It All Began”
June 24 – June 26, 2022
Algonac Harbour Club, Algonac, Michigan
We knew this birthday party would be something special, but the Michigan gang is overwhelmed by the amazing response. The very significant Chris Craft boats you mentioned and the big cruiser guys are all coming and we are going to have a blast. There is even a rumor going around that we may have a special guest joining us!
We are looking forward to a great crowd of WoodyBoaters coming to the show on Saturday to enjoy the fun.
Keeping my fingers crossed, but it’s sounding like I’ll get to be there! No boat in tow. But son has joined a friend’s LeMons team for the GingerMan Raceway event that weekend & asked his dad to come crew for them. That would take us to our son’s place, only an hour & a half from Algonac. Thinking I’ll let them go on to South Haven without me, so I can come to the show instead!
Kelly, that is great. Ask the ladies in the registration tent to call me. I would love to meet you.
Will do, Greg!
If I sweet talk the ladies in the tent, do I get to meet you? I hope to be there.
How far does one have to reach the shift lever on Miss Algonac? Looks like quite a stretch but could be the photo angle. Love to make this event even though it would be 1500 road miles. Wonder what diesel will cost by then? an arm? a leg? multiple appendages? or just a first born male?
Diesel $5.59 a gallon here today.
Even ART”S other Art (Old School) will be there by the Chris Craft display tent. It’s shown in Matts Algonac Museum shot above, just to the left of the guy standing in the photo.
. It’s a 14 foot 1952 Chris Craft Kit boat built in the Algonac High School Boat building class(with a 10HP Chris Craft outboard engine). Chris Craft donated lots of “lumber” to the school so that their potential employees had some hands on experience.
Algonac HS had a boatbuilding class? That’s awesome! Our son attended HS in a small community, where suburbia met farm country, near the IL/WI border. He was able to take hands-on courses in CAD, shop & welding, while also taking college prep level math & science. It was the best of both worlds & has served him well. Unfortunately, it seems like his was the last class there to have some of those hands-on opportunities. The instructors who had the skills to teach those courses, grew weary of defending their value & retired. Those over-seeing the school system were taken in, by the colleges & universities that stood to make cubic dollars from maximum enrollment. This country needs for schools to return to teaching skills that provide a ready path to useful employment.
I agree Kelly, Tech Ed class, or Shop Class as we called it. These programs are being canceled in Schools all over the country. Only to be replaced by computer classes. We are loosing a lot of potential craftsmen and women. Shop classes were taught by skilled craftsmen who knew how to relate to the students. Try to find that on You tube. I hope this all turns around soon. “A Revolution is coming and a man who posses skills with his hands will be well taken care of” quote is from Ropes Pierre before the French Revolution. Thats my two cents worth.
here is a pic of some of the boats….
Seeing as I am going to be out of town for this once in a lifetime event. Greg, where could I purchase one if those 100th anniversary posters??
Matt, something to put in the Woodyboater store for all of us that will not be able to make it.
Wudzgud, I think we will be selling them at the show. Let me check for you and I will post another reply with the details.
We will be selling them at the show for $10. If you or anyone else that can’t make it to Algonac wants to buy one, send me you contact info at firstname.lastname@example.org. and we will try to get you one.
Greg, I am putting you in charge of the the WoodyBoater meet and greet (in your spare time!).
I need to get my boat in the water for the first time in 30 years, quickly, and then I need to get registered for the event.
We will be there…
Bad news Steve. Registration is closed. We are out of room!
I would have LOVED to keep cruising up the Hudson, across the Erie and made it to the show, but it just is not in the card.
