The End Of Summer 2025, But Not Boating, Or Working, Or Boating…

Here on the East coast we have been waking up to 65 degree days with top temps in the 70’s, no humidity and flat water with big puffy clouds. AND after this weekend, the whacko wake maker boaters will be gone! Leaving the perfect weather and water for me and my boat. Never mind the two TV shoots planned right in the smack dab center of it all. But hey, I love that as well, so I suppose it’s a cornucopia of pleasures. We have a big whopping show in Clayton this year that will be amazing, and could be extremely picturesque,  September 15-21se, of course right when I am to be in NYC filming again. And then there is the Reedville Show, which is on the Sept 13th and the Railway is a part of the show location. So that will be a last minute scramble to get ready for.

It seems like employment and income are conflicting again to make the summer of 2025, a blur. I know many of you are strongly suggesting I retire, but to be honest. I LOVE what I do. It’s not work for me, it’s like telling an artist to stop painting. I have many passions, And sometimes ya gotta decide what’s the best way to go.

I love going to the boat shows and seeing everyone. I have been blessed with many pals in this community, and WoodyBoater has helped keep those connections going. But the one TV shoot in NYC this year is a whopper and very very cool. AND, I can’t do that while I am at a boat show, BUT I can report on the events while on the shoot. In fact it’s far easier for me. Being at an event is a full time thing, filming and having conversations. Then going to my room at the hotel and reporting.

It is a 2-3 person job. Steve Lapkin, Holly Webber, Kent O. Smith and Bob Kays have made this all possible. And hopefully this year we will have that sort of thing happening. BTW, I also am keenly aware that I will be sick to death that I am missing the party of boating fun in Clayton. Especially when all the imagery and reporting comes in.

Keep doing what you love. You are very good at burning the candle at both ends. Troy and I (and many others) will hold down the fort at Clayton. Don’t schedule any tv shoots for the international show at Port Huron next year!

On Lake James in northern Indiana we also had our last woody run this morning. Beautiful blue skies, calm water…and no one broke down. Fourteen classics in all.

Matt, I totally get what you are saying. As an early 40-somthing if I was able to pull down my architect shingle now and retire, I am pretty certain I wouldn’t. Turning a client’s dream or ambition into reality and seeing it built is too strong a drug for us creative types! Now that I’m officially a woody boater (story forthcoming once I have some downtime) I also get the ‘you can’t do it all’ mentality. Would be fun to get to the Reedville show and meet you and the gang some year. Is there a good location to check out the specifics of the show? Cheers and enjoy those shoots!

Nevermind… I found the Reedville Info. Good information on their website. The ACBS show @ Clayton on the other hand. You must need to be an ACBS member to see the schedule. Very little info on the public facing portions of the site, just a circular link between the Museum and ACBS websites. ha. It’s a great time of year for shows!
