The New Classic Boat Show….WHAT'S…… IT…. WORTH?
Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the newest game show on the web. WHAT’S….. IT…… WORTH? We have some amazing finds here that absolutely no one can guess the price… Tell them what the boat is Don!
Thanks Woody, what we have here is a half started restoration on a 16 foot Whirlwind…. nothing terribly interesting there Woody… But… What makes this a hard guess is that it has NOTHING with it…OOOOOOOOOOO! Ahhhhhhhhhh!
So what you are saying Don is that it’s just the Hull.. A stripped 16 foot Hull.

That’s right Woody. That’s it. I suppose if you have a Whirlwind that needs a hull and you already have the parts it’s worth more to you, and if not… It’s a nice planter for that nautical garden you have been planning.
Thanks Don, So to you viewers out there, this is your chance to play… WHATS….IT….WORTH?
Comment in and lets give the owner a value. If you are the lucky winner you can email him and buy it… or tow it to the dump for him. Walter Crouse at Houseofcrouse@yahoo.com
That is a nice hull, worth about a grand.
one wonders, with all the hefty ACBS directories and other info available out there, why potential sellers never look up and contact any of us Whirlwind guys???
A painted hull, iffy trailer, if for sale on EBAY right now, last bidder skipped out after bidding 2K…an ok price and one that will buy it this time. At least tell Howard Johnson and let him store/save/sell that one.

I say $1,999.99, not what I would pay for it but what it might sell for.

Well I guess you could pick up odds and ends at the flee markets, can even be from other years and makes. Call it a one off custom and let the judges figure it out. Probably be in its own catagory, pick up a ton of 1st places, make up a celebdrity who is rumored to have owned it then price it at $100,000. It could work.
If it were me I wouldn’t pay much more than 100.00 for it. The time and money for hardware is’nt worth it for what you have in the end. It would be an obscene amount of money to bring it back to original, which is where it would actually be worth something.
With oddball hardware and a quick finish on it you would have something to bang around in and have a lot of fun.
Not worth much when you can pick a complete boat from $2500 and up. Gas is too expensive and I need to save it for my boat. Looking for part is fine but you will need a long time horizon say 2015.
$85 a cord
Your answer is “Priceless”, Jim. That’s funny.
If a guy had a complete boat but needed a new hull to put under it…
Well, as a “don”, might I recognize a ‘US Molded Shapes” hull (I believe Whirlwind did use these, see Speltz, #4); I might also notice three longitudinal bottom frames (stringers) and two seat-thwart supports.
Does that T-shirt really say woody-something?
The deck planking (sans false kerfs) might mean that you have uncovered a “Link”?
The tshirt is a woodyboater t shirt. I make 25 each year and give them away at the Mt Dora show as a thanks to readers. I am actually thinking of making some and selling them at cost. But the idea of commerce on this site is an ongoing struggle for me.
Matt if you only knew at the time what the demand would be then. While I know woody boater and sons of varnish clothing and mugs is not a real money maker for you or this website. The demand for them is crazy good (especially the lake Dora shirts).
