Is Today The Last Day I Could Make It To The 25th Annual New Zealand Boat Show?

,

Gotta fly! Steve Lapkin – Lake Rotti New Zealand

So, I had a wild hair, okay at my age, I have lots of wild hairs. I mean eye brows, ears? It’s crazy. Anyway I digress during your breakfast. Sorry. Anyway, I thought. mmmmmm? I wonder if I hopped on a plane today and flew to new Zealand? Could I make it?  YA! hey I have done crazier things. But, from what I could find, the flight for me is around 25 hrs. And actually even longer, because you loose an entire day, so today is Wednesday there? SO? I grab my stuff, drive to DC, and take a late flight and 6PM DC time,

No upgrade. So it’s gonna be a looooong flight.

THURSDAY afternoon, I arrive in New Zealand. Then there is all the stuff ya gotta go through, and so lets say I get to a hotel at 6PM. Rent a car, and drive to Lake Rotoiti, like a Tasmanian devil. And arrive Friday afternoon.

The show is on Saturday, and Sunday but chances are, I would be in an ER somewhere, or asleep, or anything but actually be mentally capable of anything.  But it is physically possible. With ZERO delays,
The good news is we have Steve Lapkin already there, and recouping from his journey and Phil Andrews ready to report. So maybe it’s best I stay here at the Global HQ and manage our worldwide media empire in a mentally stable..ish condition. Wild hairs and all.

Yup. And here I am, staying overnight in a senior living community, trying to teach my autistic brother how to use his new TV remote. Good times!

Figuring out a tv remote is pure hell. I just got new cable boxes and still want to throw the dam things out the window. But first need to find the remote to operate the window shades.

Glad to see info (again) on NZ boating. Words and photos only convey so much. NZ is positively gorgeous, you just have to go there! The wine, beer and food is fantastic, and the people are so laid back and friendly. Air New Zealand makes the plane trip to Auckland quite pleasant. GO!

My daughter and family live in Christchurch, NZ, South Island. While yet to make it to North Island, we have made several trips to So Island Lakes Tekopo and Wanaka. Beautiful scenery, clean water and absolutely cold! Really hard for us SE Wisconsinites to envision these 10,000+ acre lakes with no one out tearing it up……

I used to film BMW commercials in New Zealand in the early aughts. Just stunning and so friendly. We went there for four reasons: Amazing film industry (thanks to Peter Jackson), “relatively” close to BMW’s production facilities in South Africa, US dollar to New Zealand dollar, but most important you could get the look of six or seven other countries in one country: Alps, wine country, black sand beaches, rain forests, rolling hills of the English countryside. And shooting cars meant I got to see much of it from a helicopter. GO, Matt! But with a 25 hour flight think hard about that economy seat.

Love the art work of the show poster! New Zealand, home of the Hamilton Jet drive that revolutionized Jet Boating. On my bucket list!

My bride of nearly 53 years and I attended the NZ show last year. We had a great time and I highly recommend it. We were treated very well and the people involved in putting the show together went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Boat rides were offered and accepted. Lake Rotoiti is a small lake at the north end of the South Island. The landscape of the South Island is over the top beautiful. Also it was great fun spending time with Phil Andrew and of course Steve Lapkin. Here today there tomorrow or the next day, it’s confusing I know. If you decide to go down under make reservations early, the how I very popular.
