WECATCHEM Wins Award At Boat Show? What? I Don’t Understand, She Is Tucked Away?

I cant find WECATCHEM? But is that Stinky?

The other day, someone asked for a certain issue of Summer 1975 issue Antique Boating by Ray Nelson. And Sir Bob Kays, went a lookn. And didnt find the specific issue but did find this little nugget. The reason was it had a report on our first show on Lake Hopatcong. But WECATCHEM? Well that was a story by Ray Nelson on the show up in New Hampshire. And right there in the list is. You guessed it from the headline today. WECATCHEM.

mmm, 2nd, and NO WINNER of first. Ahhhh, the good old days when you didnt get a trophy for showing up. The standards were higher? I am so confused. Was she not good enough? I am emotionally damaged now. Okay, Damaged..er! Okay, okay…a train wreck.

Now of course this led to a bigger issue, is she in the photo? At first I thought yes, but a deeper look at the little dots of crappy printing, I concluded no.  You decide.

At first, looks like the same photo. BUT it isnt. This is from the IRWIN MARINE Facebook page… I HATE FACEBOOK, but from time to time. Magic happens. And At first since I thought it was the same image without the BW ink clots. And bam, there she is. And thats all I need. Just a tease of a reminder that life is good in this winter duldrum of cold wetness. JUST 6 Weeks til Dora.

A little surprised you didn’t photo shop Wecatchum in right up front with a babe on board. Some great history on the boat!

Wow that is an exciting find. I love that sort of stuff. Wonder why no first place winner in that category though?
Sorry to say, Dora is out for me this year…ship happens!

This brings back some memories! My parents attended the Winnipesaukee show a few times with Yorktown.

Raccoon was a Cobbossee boat that later in it’s life tried to kill Tim Robinson. I recall one of our group from Cobbossee who had brought a Cobra losing control (as a kid I thought he had intentionally performed what we affectionately called a “Hang on”, but was later informed that the Cobra did it’s own stunt) Dang, I think I was at this very event!

My friend Tom Thomas is listed as winning an award for his boat “Little Toot”.

These pics are from one of the Winnipesaukee trips.

Love old “typed” Newsletters and Flyers with black and white photos… Probably done on an IBM Selectric typewriter, changing the “ball fonts” and doing the tab settings…. I still have mine, works great, weighs a ton…

Heading out to look at a 22′ 1967 ChrisCraft Sea Skiff this weekend,… dont have one of those …I might be more prone to leave a painted boat in the water this summer, and paint upkeep is much easier than protecting the varnished ones .. or just an excuse to buy another boat 🙂

In the black and white photo, my first thought was: Wow – “Stinky” and “Wecatchem” side by side! Guess not, but nice bit of history!

Yes the summer of 1997 at Tahoe raccoon had its way with me. While trying to clear a hydraulic lock on the engine we had a fuel vapor explosion which sent me to the hospital with severe burns. My good buddy Terry Fiest saved my life by dragging me down the launch ramp into the cold Tahoe water. Terry used his military training to keep me from going into shock. Almost every year at Tahoe we clink a glass of something to celebrate that I survived that Terrible day.

Matt ya know that Art was going to respond……..

Wow even in 1975 the “mid 30s” Cobras had the lifting rings on WRONG.

Saw that….had no idea Cobras were so old! Very advanced styling for the times…izzat what was meant by Art Deco? Ya, I know; not THAT Art….

No!!! Not this again! 😀 The actual show in Dora starts in less than 5 weeks. If you show up in 6, you will find a much quieter experience.
