Really? Oh come on. The 10 inches of rain yesterday and broken lift wasn’t enough? Falling through the dock with a board missing putting on a boat cover. And now a GD Hurricane heading to the fleet. WTF! Really? I mean I have been hammering away about Port Huron for over a dam year, and THIS is the weekend the bitch Florence decides. Hey, why not come to Virginia. It’s all those Sunnyland jokes isn’t it?

And I have to make the call tonight. Hotel 48 hr notice. Hey, it’s not even the boating. Its all… ALL our pals and fellow Woody Boaters. IN MICHIGAN! This was gonna be the Last gasp. Now I need to make sure I have gas… For the generator. And chances are????? She may miss us. Or Not, but by then its too late. I will have prepped the house, taken all the boats out. Strapped down Sweet Pea. And all this while I could be Boating The Blue, instead of the Grey..

The brunt of it should be well south of you. Just bring the boats inland and hit the road. Worst case scenario, wouldn’t you rather be in Michigan worrying about your stuff than in the center of a major hurricane worrying about your survival?
Be safe protect your home and boats there is always another boat event or show.
Don’t know about well south, but south for sure. And south isn’t where you want an approaching storm to be.
My wife Kathy and I have decided not to take the trip north so as not to be on the roads and hog a hotel room that some evacuees may need. Unfortunately we must be back home on Tuesday for business. I feel for anyone in your area Matt. Moore’s Marine is going to be a direct hit and anyone on the north side too. Good luck and God bless. If I can help in anyway just ask.

Hope you didn’t get hurt falling through the dock. Doesn’t look like an easy job getting your boats onto trailers at this point. I’m north of you but I still put Panther in a safe place and stashed a couple of cans of fuel for the generator, (can always use it in the cars). Next problem is do I take possession of my new boat on Wednesday or tell the dealer to hold it? Florence is definitely not welcome here as many are still raising houses after Sandy.
Do be careful with the electrical on your flooded docks for the lifts. Even PVC conduit properly glued can have water get inside through a loose coupling and cause hazardous conditions. Water (especially salt or brackish water) can create strange paths for electrical leakage. You don’t want the water becoming “energized”. Hopefully, all your lift circuits are on Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters.
Be safe brother. I’ve been through many including Katina in New Orleans. Not fun at all. Always best to evacuate.
I think I’d haul out and head towards Port Huron but I understand you hate to leave the area with that storm coming. Might they send out evac notice anyway? Tough decisions, either way may good luck find you.
Be safe but remember that the worst place to be is on the N.E. side of a hurricane. 60 years of Florida storms has finally drilled that lesson into my head.

This is probably not the best time to mention this, but our excessive use of fossil fuels is a contributing factor to global warming and these “over the top” hurricanes. I just sold my boat for that reason.

Wheeling WV where the Vintage Race Boat Regatta was held a week ago is also dealing with flooding. The pit area this morning is now 8 feet under water with the water level expected to rise another 10 feet before tomorrow morning. The tree in the picture has a water level into it’s branches.
A lesson I was taught a long time ago “When you think you have it bad someone else has it worse!”

Actually here in the ANE New Moon tides can be bigger than Full Moon tides.
Find a protected cove, rig a bridal & spread out some extra anchors for Sweet Pea. and keep her in the middle away from the trees and power lines. That way the only damage will be from the boats which have broken loose rubbing up against her. Charge up the bilge pump batteries, and tighten up the hatches.

We could use that ten inches of rain here in Oregon…many of our reservoirs are only 10% full.
We set a record this year for 32 Days this summer with a temp of over 90 degrees….and now yet again the hurricanes are gonna do some serious whupping.
But, climate change is still just some bs that we liberals have dreamed up for kicks….
Matt, we will definitely miss you, but also wish you good luck making it through the storm. How about a rain check for Algonac or Port Huron next year. Hang in there!
