A Warm Sweet Ride.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
A huge thanks to fellow Woody Boater and local pal Dave Godwin for capturing the Boatress and I out for a warm short ride in Sweet Pea. One more reason on the list of reasons to own more that one boat. A large enough boat so you can use a small heater and still enjoy the slow and gentle movement of the water.

We keep a heat lamp in Sweet Peas engine area, and start her daily to run a bit so we can take advantage of year around boating here in Virginia. Smart? I don’t know. But around here there are tons of old boats in the water that work year around as much as possible.

Since we have been doing this, the winters go quicker, and the break and reminder of of the love of the water is always there. I guess in a way, I would highly recommend a perfect day boat, and a not so perfect day boat. Either way. Its boating!

I boat in Michigan in the summer and boat in Florida on the St. Johns river in the winter, but today I’m concerned with my V8 freezing………it is VERY cold here and I don’t like it…………Berrrrrrr
Sprung for the heater option when we ordered the Malibu in 1998. As much for the windshield defrost function, as for the heat. At the time, we lived near Chattanooga & were much younger. We’d start waterski season in April & go till the 1st of November! Much older & 300 miles further north now, ski season is a few months shorter for us.

Too hard for Woody Boating and too deep snow for iceboating. Beautiful hoar ice in the trees tho🤔

Sweet Pea surely does have some of the most beautiful lines for a working vessel. Truly classic! It’s good to see her moving.

Looks like you found that sweet spot. Not so far south that you need to keep all your boats working all the time but not so far north that you have to put them all away. You still have that change of seasons but somewhat modified. Sweet Pea is looking good.
Good boat to have for your area. i think you have posted pictures of the wheelhouse but not sure you have ever posted any of the after part of the cabin? anything interesting there?
A little late for yesterday’s story but Sweet Pea reminded me of my 30″ shrimp boat model I built a long, long time ago and never finished painting. Sweet lines!
I have an extra, factory rebuilt, BoatSafe brand engine compartment heater that I will GIVE you…if the boatress takes me and one of the dogs on that long promised ride. (you can come too…) What a great looking classic that Rice Trawler is!! Careful with the heatlamp deal….BoatSafe is the way to go…keeps engine compartment a constant 42-44….used them for years…that is why…season be damned…I can
