In order to set up what you are about to read.. I thought it would be a good idea to set the tone and what you are about to read. Pat Curtin for many years was the go to guy in the film business when it came to marine coordinating.. He worked on films such as Water World starring Kevin Costner, Striking Distance starring Bruce Willis, Interview With A vampire starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, and of course On Golden Pond with Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda .. Oh and Jane Fonda.. Ohhh Jane Fonda.. He also worked on a slew of others.. But it kinda gets boring.. He was personal friends with Henry Fonda and many of Hollywood’s top execs. Needless to say Pat knows how to play in the big leagues of the film industry. He also ran a very successful classic boat ship in New Hampshire, Judged at many shows including Clayton and is part of a small group of legends in the hobby. He was general manager of Donzi boats and now is happily retired in New Hampshire and Maine.. At the age of 68, he still is full of energy, and has the luxury of not having to be patient with anyone. He speaks in a direct way and his speech pattern is direct and to the point.
When I was putting this all together, along the way over the past few years, it’s became clear that because of Pats pointed way of talking that folks that don’t understand that to be just a way of talking would steer clear.. They would not ask the question, and avoid it and look for the answer in another place. So as you might expect.. Things got distorted.. And that has led to a mistrust of the press. So.. I thought, fine.. I will give you a forum here.. What ever say. I will print. Without interpretation or any other sort of filter.. If you are easily offended or prone to posting anonymous jabs.. After reading Pat's last comment to Ken Miller it's easy to see how some might be put off. He definitely shoots from the hip. On the plus side there is no misunderstanding of what's on his mind. Ken if you see Pat this winter, stay off the ice! Now lets get this blog back to important stuff, like is it really likely that the Exxon Valdez will still be floating that far in the future as in Water World? Who was the advisor on that again?

People like myself who do the actual work on a movie have no say in what something is called.
We both know that steel hulls last so long and then they go away. I am quite sure some liberal Hollywood type writer was trying to make a point but he doesn't know the bow from the stern.
The one name they did get right was my name on my pay check! You have a great day and this is fun.
In the articles Pat confirmed both (1802 and 1460) were used in the film. Some of you anonymous posters may have trouble reading but this anonymous doesn't.

as the main boat on the screen with rhe stars or 'used' as a backup

When I told him about the 1460 and the mail boat, he got in his truck and drove 14 Hours each way with no question. Some people don't like what he reports on and gives him crap, if you don't like it change the channel. I know 99% of you would not do what he does,me included. Other so called clubs get nothing done and won't let the members comment on things. Woody boater has something almost every day for its readers. THANKS MATT
Pat, Pat, Pat…I couldn't agree more about your thoughts about Matt. He is a good friend, a great enthusiast and sounding board for the hobby. Woodyboater has been a great thing for this hobby, as it will be from here on. You might be interested to know how much respect I have for him. If you want to know, call me back again, and I'll be glad to expound.
Now, I want to elaborate a bit on your other point, because I have a feeling I was not overly clear. You are welcome as a member in the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club. I told you this on the phone, and I will go on record in telling you that here. As a member you will have access to Boat Buzz, as you wish. But as I mentioned, we have policies against freeform commenting that deliberately take ANY discussion down a dirt path.
Specifically, Boat Buzz does not allow, "any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed)."
Pat this boilerplate was not drafted yesterday. In fact it was last modified March of 2008. We have had very little reason to ever enforce a lick of it. Pat, I am writing this with my tongue halfway in cheek. I have talked with you numerous times over the years and have no problem with a rough, gruff Southie. I do not have one ounce of disrespect, so let's move on.

just got off the phone with bill and we made peace! he said he would cut off one of his testicles and give me free lifetime membership in the club if i was nice. i wanted both of them but what the hell, one is OK. it's going to be hard to be real nice but what can i do.

I was brought up in a place and at a different time than most people today. We were taught if you have a problem with a person you talked to them, they talk to you,face to face and let the chips fall. Bill and I had a problem, so i picked up the phone and gave him a call, in two seconds problem solved.Done deal. Today they exchange 100 emails and everyone is pissed off. I wonder which is the best way?
I don't take shots at people, I just say what I think, but people today want everything sugar coated. Not my style. That saying could fit a whole lot of people but it was said just as a statement. If i had a problem with the owner of 1802 I would have let him know but thanks for asking Alex
