Come listen to a story about a man named Jed!
Ya! Thats me driving through town. Laugh all you want, it worked, and I was able to do it by myself. Of course I couldn’t get out of bed, and have a morphine drip going so I can function. The little skiff is The Betty J, a1960’s Crab Skiff. Built by the Bray’s for well, the Bray family. We have had it for ever and had it restored twice, now due for a third time. I have had to cut it down, and put a new transom on it. Her lines are perfect and she is a wonderful little boat.

Her second restoration up at the old office workshop in Northern Va area, now my apartment.
Same Space now.
Deigned to be used around the shores and areas where you can stand and just scoop out crabs. She is family to Sweet Pea as well, sharing the same DNA. And she is now tucked away in her purgatory waiting to be reborn again.
She is sitting and waiting. By the way, I have yet to look in that shed. I see a Horaldo Moment coming. Whats in the shed? No idea!
From that picture it looks like the Boatress is fond of Betty J. I wouldn’t put off that restoration much longer if you want to stay a happy man!
“Horaldo” might be my favorite spelling yet.

Hey Matt, kind of tough on your boats, eh? Three rebuilds in 60 years!
I remember that boat! Going back to the early days of WoodyBoater, maybe before, you had that boat listed in your Boat Buzz signature as an 11” Crab Skiff. I couldn’t figure out if the skiff was eleven inches or if it was a skiff for eleven inch crabs!
Maybe you should add a wheel on the skeg of Betty J like Pea Wee has so that it will be easier on her when you drag her across the flats.

That sturdy skiff could probably hold all these tarts and their tats. I hope I got the spelling right.
I agree with Greg, Restore it, keep the boateress happy. Besides that it looks like a fun little boat. Oh by the way Matt I don’t believe you are on morphine. Been there done that. Todays story makes too much sence to be written on drugs !

After reading all of today’s blogs it has become very clear that the boatress likes the Betty J. If a man was given a marriage manual on his wedding day the last page would simply read (Happy wife happy life) Now I sound like Dr Phil. So Matt drop everything & repair the boat!!
Great looking little boat, and I do love the idea of wheels on the bottom of boats like this.
I can’t believe you haven’t checked out the shed yet! Inquiring minds want to know. I heard they still haven’t recovered the money yet from the bank robbery near there in 1947.
Who knows? Maybe Horaldo will find some Rivara parts in there… 😉
