“The Female Is Often More Deadly Than The Male”
Hey we didn’t say it, ahhh the fun of old footage and dumb writing. The footage is fun, and will kill a good 6 minutes of your day.. It also shows all the stuff that went into the racing. The jumps are surprisingly slow?
Organized chaos can sure be entertaining. I think I was once young and crazy enough to do something like that, but it was a long time ago!
Loved the guy who had to spread eagle himself to keep the bow down! What a hoot!
Great vintage footage! Think I’ll stick to my inboard though.
as if racing boats wasnt crazy enough. mm lets put a jump for the boats. APBA had a different view of things back then. I guess the lawyers put a stop to that. still make me want to go for a boat ride.
more as i am here
Here’s but one example in nature. I could cite millions more, but why go on?
Per Wiki: “Spider cannibalism is a special case of cannibalism in which a female spider kills and eats a male of the same species before, during, or after copulation. Cases in which males eat females are rare. There has always been speculation on why this sacrifice of male mates might occur despite the fact that there is an obvious disadvantage to the sacrificial males. One theory is that once the male has mated, he is unlikely to mate again and so any further extension of his life is of lesser evolutionary benefit than his indirectly contributing nutrition to the eggs. Having more offspring would give the male the advantage of having his genes passed on over other males that might avoid being eaten. This scenario would be consistent with the hypothesis of Roberts that old or unfit males get eaten, whilst younger and fitter ones may survive to mate again.”
Don’t believe what you (burp) read on the Internet.
Back to cruiser news.
I’ve negotiated the buyer down to $24999, delivered to your dock full of gas. It’s some white and blue boat of infamous make. Call me soon this ship is selling today!
That is the reason both boats and aircraft are given female names. They suck the money out of your wallet and then bleed you dry, just like a wife.
Amen!
This just in from the Movie Tone news company’s useless fact department……..
The the Salton Sea (where this trailer was shot), was once a favorite destination of APBA outboard class “speed demons”.
At the annual, winter regattas, held here in the 1930s and early 40s, speed records set previously each year were soundly smashed. (insert high pitched whine of a Johnson PR)
Why here?
Well the winning effect was not much of a mystery it occurred because the lake is 248 feet below sea level. At this level ,higher atmospheric pressure naturally prevails and produces a sort of natural supercharger effect, particularly so in the primitive carbs of the day.
These speed demons also took advantage of the lake’s high salinity (about 44 g/l, greater than that of the Pacific Ocean) which was rumored to add additional buoyancy to the conventional hydro’s commonly in use until the late 1940s.
Hmmm something for the myth busters to investigate?

What was the death toll at that event?
At least we know where the survivors and offspring are….
with us today….on jet skis…….damn em

Finally figured I had 6 minutes available to chew up.
I don’t think the guy doing the nose dive even had a life jacket on, than again it looks like the water they were jumping over was only about waist deep.
Another screen shot of that guy’s header.
