At $30k new in 1970 that would have been one very expensive sport boat. My 35 was only 20% more. Awesome boat. ” We could not have said it better. So guess what. Mike found this amazing website that has all the Fino info on it you would want. Great site, great pics. Its a day of Fino love.. From FinoMarine.com – These pictures of Bobby’s boat called Finale were sent to us by Fred Darwick of Miami Florida. This boat is believed to be the last Fino built (hence the name Finale) and we think that it went to Monaco Italy and used by Bobby as his personal boat.
I am not a fan. The styling looks like someone attempted to make an updated glass Riva and screwed it up. The lines don’t quite work and the windshield looks like a DIY replacement from a completely different boat. I guess that is a good thing since it keeps my wallet firmly in pocket and my marriage intact.

I have never designed a boat and never will. I know I don’t have the skills to pull it off. At any rate, there are classic glass boats I don’t mind seeing on here as a change of pace, but these boats don’t strike me as classic well executed designs. They seem neither timeless nor a good representation of their era. Big curves, big engines, throw in an oddly angular windshield and voila…the result does not always live up to the sum of the parts.
Just my opinion obviously, but I would rather have a more pedestrian yet classic Century Cheetah.
m-fine, if you don’t want to admit what boat you have I will help you out. m-fine has a Penn Yan. So… I’m not putting Penn Yan down… just saying what were up against here. A guy that owns a Penn Yan putting down a Fino. Now aint that special. Sounds more like a compliment to me.

So I was thinking I really like these Finos, saw this one in the Dora Canal this spring. Checked it out at the show.
However I have scoured the internet and can not find one picture of a bikini clad babe on a Fino.

Hot bikini girls know style when they see it. They gravitate to Donzi’s and Riva’s for good reason.
Girls on Fino’s? That’s what they were built for. Ask Red Addie and Bernie Little and Earl Smalley and countless others who bought this boat new. It was their bachelor pad on water.

I know I have said this before and don’t want to beat a dead horse, but I do appreciate the mix of boats that Matt covers on this site.
I really LOVE my Woodys but have a great appreciation for most all boats.

Love the Fino… One sexy craft! Also, I love the craftsmanship of a wood boat and appreciate the skill it takes to make one. However, there are many types of wood boat I would consider as “kindling” if it were not for the respect I have for their constructors.
Truly, I cannot understand the interest some boats draw. Fortunately, I don’t have to because it “floats someone else’s boat”. I cannot deny I love boats with performance and (my version of) style no matter what the boat is made of. My yardstick is not wood vs. plastic, rather performance, beauty and style vs. well,… the opposite of that.
It’s nice that there’s lots of water out there… and also here at WoodyBoater. 🙂
—-I love looking at all wood boats but had a job at Donzi in 1971 and was seduced by those early Donzis. Right next door at the Magnum plant (still there) I used to watch the Finos being rigged. Just me, but I feel that they are the most beautiful American designed boat ever built. Walt Walters (a genius in my estimation) didn’t lay down a bad line when he designed them. I hope theres room here for all of us as I really enjoy this website, especially now that my boat has been mentioned. Yes, I own the Fino that was at the St. Clair show. It would have been a wonderful experience if my boat hadn’t won a thing but my wife and I are truly lucky to have been chosen best in show. We seemed to be well received that Saturday by just about everyone. A fiberglass boat may not win next year and that’s perfectly OK, as I know a great boat will!!!………Bill S

Congratulations to Bill and his Best of Show win. I have to agree with his assessment regarding Walt Walters. Walt has probably been the most influential designer in the marine world. I dare anyone to find someone who has done more. I have had the pleasure of riding in Berts Fino in Tavares last March and loved it. I think the lines are truly classic at all angles. Very tastefully done and way ahead of their time in my estimation.
It is articles like these that make Woodyboater such a cool place to visit!
