Happy Birthday America! Is My Boat One Year Older?
Lily Durren enjoying the July 4th weekend is growing up right in front of us all.
If you own one of the many different brand American made boats we talk about daily here, is your boat one year older today, or the day it was made.. Wait.. I think I just answered my own question. I hate that when that happens at the very start of a story. I mean what am I going to write about then. Such is the joy of a day off. Nothing really to do or focus on.. Oh look a cool boat just went by.. Anyway, where was I?

Oh yeah, power boating is an American thing. Started in Algonac.. well maybe not really. Actually the first power boats were made in England in the late 1800’s Wait, that’s not very American. Well today’s a wash. Wash? maybe I should just go sit in the boat and wash her down and go boating.. Yes, that’s what I will do today on Americas Birthday. mmm, I like Birthday cake.. maybe I will have a piece of cake.. Happy 4th of July!
Happy 4th everyone! Busy day today. First off to the Penn Yan Flying Club’s 76th annual 4th of July flyin (or drive in) breakfast. Then we put the ribs in the smoker, make the cure for my first attempt at homemade bacon, and then raise the flag pole with a new not yet faided American and Michigan flag.

Thanks Reddog, LILY, the boat was shipped on June 23, 1952. LILY, my daughter was born on July 2, 2008. The boat restoration was completed the year she was born. Timed so close that the painter was waiting for us to name our child before gold leafing the transom.

The Penn Yan Flying club has hosted an annual breakfast every 4th of July since 1946 (the airport was run by the Army durring the war). In recent decades they typically serve 2500-3500 pancake egg and sausage breakfasts.
When the weather is good planes fly in from far and wide. Even international visitors…
After a hearty breakfast, it is time to get the ribs on the smoker…

Always thought the Amphib? was best plane, water or hard surface capable, twins, and a high wing permits great visibility – what could be better (a composite modern fuselage?)

Happy birfday ‘merica (as they say down south). Hope yours was drier than ours. Water was 2 feet below the concrete bridge cross member yesterday morning on our “greenway” where we were to be hosting a half marathon, 10k, and 5k this morning. Needless to say we were scrambling for plan “B” last night even with the level down to just 2 feet above lowest grade surface in picture.
By the way, the waterway is supposed to be only on the other side of the hand railing in the above picture.

1968 Resorter. Lake of the Ozarks. We had high water and the Governor declared wake speed only for Thur. and Friday. Was not so bad. We went exploring up Indian creek. The water was a foot and half high. We went a mile past where we usually turn around. 4,3, 7 feet of water. We hit the jack pot and found a 40 foot waterfall! We just pulled into the grass and jumped out and waded up to the falls. M&M
