Heat. I Ain’t Doing That Again.

6AM yesterday. 80 degrees
With the way this year has been playing out busy wise, I again cherish the weekends. Free time with no worries of a spontaneous meeting. But with the heat, it’s very hard to get anything done. With a het index of 110 and insane humidity, I last less than an hr. So yesterday I thought. mmmm I will beat the heat and show up to the railway around 6AM to get some ship done. By 8:30 I was a zombie, and by 10:30 asleep. In fact most of the day was a washout. Napping, drinking, walking outside and turning around and back in for another nap. Dehydration had set in and I was not fooling around with it.

You can see the sweat on the deck

Water, thick and flat

The buzzards are waiting for me, they like their fat old white men cooked
I can’t decide if a freezing day or a scorching day is worse. Either way, miserable, and frankly dangerous. Even a boat ride can’t solve it. Which I tried. Several times. No wind, breeze and it’s like moving through a warm mush. The water is 88 degrees, and even a short swim is not much help, since basically you are swimming out of the water.

At least it all makes nice pics

You can feel the heat even in the photo

I aint rowing anything today. I rowed to work in the AM a couple days ago, and had to leave it here since it was in the 90’s in the afternoon.
NOTE to self, read this again in February. Around here, September and October are the most amazing boating days. Not as long as now, but pure magic. So in the mean time, I will try and stop myself from going out there. UGH

I found this old photo of Sweet Pea and she did have a shade cover. I am so doing this.

Shady Boats are the Best!
I will take a freezing day over sweltering heat. You can’t boat in hard water but you can be comfortable with the right clothing!
The wife and I were down your way yesterday and can attest to it being unbearable. I know we’ve had hotter days but the humidity was “tropical” and the UV index was “broil”. The only thing we saw swimming in the Wicomico were jelly fish and minnows.
Matt, Matt, Matt,
If you moved to the Pacific Northwest, you would not have to deal with the heat or the cold because we have neither!
What we do have is a lot of beautiful old wood boats!
