How Is It We Have Never Known About This? Oh Wait, It’s A Secret.

If you want to set a world record, at 25 MPH, do not name your boat SECRET, and then make a post card out of it, and if you are going to claim you built it, maybe you tell the world who you are? But then again, it’s a Secret. I am so confused, but hey, here we are talking about over 100 years later, so I suppose there was some sort of genius behind all this.

1906, actually in 1906, was the San Fransisco Earthquake? The First Grand Prix race, and ready for this, the first feature film was produced….in Australia..

Fred Marriott also an Australian, broke the land speed record at 127 MPH in Florida that year. And man, thats fast, imagine that in basically a soapbox derby car! Yikes

I am also very impressed by how these guys look going 25 MPH. Maybe they were rocking back and forth to speed the baby up. I will add, if you lived your life on the back of a horse, 25 mph must have felt like light speed. Then again, it’s all relative. Maybe doing some Motor boating at the shore would be fun?

I will leave it right there for you all.

I suppose 25 MPH with a 15 HP engine in a 27 foot boat is impressive. Top speed in my 25 foot Lyman with a 195 HP V8 is about 30 MPH per GPS.

So that’s what they mean when they say “On a slow boat to China.” …. Just kidding. At least you have a boat, I have nothing that floats right now. (Except an ice cube)

Not surprised Secret was from Bay City. A lot of fast boats including hydroplanes from builders like Staudacher and Morin were built there. Some were John Hacker designs. Just more of Michigan’s boat building history.

The writing is maybe German. ( Ooh the Germans). On the right there is the name Johan Ian(?) Cloys. Writing on the left looks also like German or Swiss (Dutch?). But I don’t read or write either so sorry I can’t help you after that

Sadly the record holder of the world speed record on water, Ken Warby, passed away this week peacefully at his home in Cincinnati. His amazing feat of engineering and daring with his home built plywood Spirit of Australia with it’s surplus military jet engine set the speed record in 1978 at 317 mph. That record still stands today.
