A huge thanks to the Katz’s Marina Gang for sending me an emergency revive of varnish lust. Just look at this Barrel Back. WOW, I thought the passion had gone until I saw these images. Rare, rare, and rare, Orange Seams, Brown Leather interior. All restored and ready for spring. 1940 19 Barrel Back perfection.

Brown interior is stunning and a wonderful change. I like this better than the Pig skin color. But I would complain either way

Note the two Bear Claw scoops, this is one of the before 4 scoop Coast Guard rule. Which was Late 1940, or early 1941 The last of the Barrels was in 1942

What is the story behind windshield ?
Also I am curious about the cast bronze exhaust elbow. I’m not sure I have seen one like this before.
I could be wrong, but it looks like a boat I restored almost 20 years ago. It was on Lake Tahoe for many years under the name Good Grief. I recognize one of the mistakes I made. The brown upholstery and windshield are correct for this boat. The windshield is original to this boat and was ordered that way. The windshield is one that would have been used on a utility, so you could affix a canvas top to it.

Although likely cast iron originally, the 45 degree elbow looks correct along with the integrated intake exhaust manifold. I believe, however, nut on elbow is later style. Those manifolds are rare. Beautiful boat.

Well, I guess if I have to ask I could’nt afford it.Katz’s advertises the hp as 130.Love the orange waterline.Not crazy about the brown interior.Incredible restoration.

I had a 39 BB and recall 39 & 40 both had the ‘Bugatti’ windshield. This boat really a 4o or could be 41??
Whatever happened to the Cobra that needed rhinoplasty? It just seemed that story fell off the earth.
I’m a new woodyboater but a long time wood boat lover. I jumped in this last September buying my first boat, 1940 19’ Barrel Back. I was truly blessed buy a gracious seller giving me a great price I could afford. She was restored in the mid 80’s buy a well known restorer, the restoration still looks new. According to the hull card, she is all original except the green leather interior. I was only able to take her out once before early winter came. That “M” engine really moves her along. So far winter feels like it will last forever. I was wondering how many Woodyboaters have a Barrel Back?

Someone needs to smudge the varnish, skuff the upholstery, and toss some pine needles and smutz in the bilge ’cause it just doesn’t look real its so perfect. Wonder about the name on the transom.

Just beautiful. Two questions though….why are the seat backs stretched clean and taut but the seat bottoms are all wrinkled up? Makes it all look a bit “frumpy”….odd in a boat that is perfect, even in the details.
And the second….did CC boats really leave the factory looking like this? I dunno….
The frumpy seat cushions might be caused by Matt but also due to have been filled with kapok, perhaps. Did it leave the factory like the pictured: well one thing is the factory didn’t put on as many coats of varnish, I’m thinking.
She is a real Bobby Dazzler….that finish is like glass. Is it safe to assume it’s sprayed?
Steering wheel looks just fantastic, reminds me of the ones made in Australia by Pearlcraft. Pricey but totally unique and really put a vehicle or boat over the top. https://pearlcraft.com.au/
