I Need Something To Break, So I Can Have A Break.

Tach Cable break

The other day while out on Stinky the tach stopped working. COME ON! After 90 years? What a pile of crap! HA. A quick call to VaNess and a new cable was made. VaNess custom makes them, all you need is the length and its done. But this is not the point of todays story.

10 feet long

Working on it became a break from all the crap in the world. And there is no shortage of crap going on. We are in the anger faze of the emotional process of all this, and to be transparent. Triggering all sorts of Anxiety in myself. From what I am reading, close to 30% of people are experiencing the same feelings these days.

There’s the problem!

So, when the tach cable broke, and one of my freeze plugs started leaking. I had to go out to the boathouse and do some repairing.

Little hole in the plug

But a side benefit happened. I found myself being able to fix at least something. Everything else in the world is nut-so. At least I can fix a tach cable and freeze plug. And have a good laugh on the phone with a good pal. Thanks to VanNess Engineering for the parts and help! You helped me take a short and rewarding break from all this.

Then a slow ride to Dinner at The Crazy Crab. Take out at the dock! We could have rented out the table for the weekend! HA. This is the way to go out to eat for sure.

I agree Matt, there’s a lot of crap going around. Thankfully I can go out on deck and clear the mind. Keep boating!

Spent this morning banging on the freeze plugs, and a short test on the water. A great way to start the day. The Breakfast of champion sparks!

At least Stinky’s cable isn’t longer than Stinky! Found all but 2 strands broken on the Unipower GT throttle cable last weekend. Had to order a 14′ cable, for an 11′ 7″ car!

        Reddog,
Mostly Grattan & Gingerman raceways in MI. Covid interrupted the plan for me to try for my vintage racing license this spring. But my husband may race the car at Blackhawk Farms next month, if the track reopens in time.

I had my tach restored and converted to electric by Kocian years ago. Much better than a new tach cable, but I guess I won’t have the opportunity to fix it again.

Got the woody in the water, ran great after a very long sleep. Couldn’t leave the dock as the chain is closed due to flooding. Maybe next week …

With regard to the leaking and corroded freeze plug, is it considered appropriate or perhaps a travesty of modernism in the wordy boater space to install a marine engine cooling heat exchanger just to isolate the classically beautiful engine from corrosive sea water ?
